Punta Gorda Cruises, Tours and Museums
Punta Gorda’s tours are small-scale: boat cruises from Fishermen’s Village, a swamp buggy ranch tour, a wildlife sanctuary visit and guided mural walks. There are no hop-on hop-off buses and no city bus tours, so most visitors combine a cruise with a self-guided walk. Storms can disrupt sailings between June and November, so reconfirm a booking after bad weather.
King Fisher Fleet cruises
King Fisher Fleet sails from Fishermen’s Village, 1200 W Retta Esplanade, and its office number is 941-639-0969. The Harbor Tour starts at about $42 and lasts 1.5 hours. The Peace River Nature Cruise starts at about $52 and lasts 3.5 hours. The Cabbage Key cruise starts at about $62 and takes 7.5 hours, and the Boca Grande cruise costs the same and runs from December to April. The Private Tour starts at $475. All prices are “from” figures. The Cayo Costa cruise is not available after hurricane damage, so do not plan around it.
Babcock Ranch swamp buggy
Babcock Ranch Eco Tours is at 8502 FL-31. The 90-minute swamp buggy eco-tour is paired with a walking tour, and bookings go through FareHarbor or 800-500-5583. Adult fares are around $27 on booking sites, and child and senior fares are best checked when you book. Tours run from about 9 am into the early afternoon, so check the schedule. Wildlife is seen in its own time, so no sighting is guaranteed.
Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary
The address is 41660 Horseshoe Rd, west of SR-31. Visits are guided tours only and a reservation is required, so call 239-543-1130. Tours have run on Monday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, and the sanctuary may close for part of the summer. Ask about the admission price and the current schedule when you call.
Guided mural walks
Downtown has more than 30 historic murals. The Mural Society runs private guided walks from December to March at $200 for up to 10 people, with extra guests at $10 each up to 18. Book with the society. A free alternative is the Otocast app, which gives self-guided audio all year.
Fishing charters
Private inshore charters leave from Punta Gorda marinas. Published half-day rates run roughly $500 to $1,000 for the boat, and full days roughly $900 to $2,500. Ask whether a Florida fishing license is included, because that varies by captain.
Getting around
Charlotte County Transit runs Dial-A-Ride, which is curb-to-curb, needs a reservation and is open to the general public in the county. There is no fixed-route bus, so a car or rideshare is the practical way to reach Babcock Ranch and the sanctuary.
