Two to Four Day Trips From Kazungula
A stay of two to four days lets you combine Chobe, the Falls and a river lodge without rushing. The trip crosses Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe, and sometimes Namibia, with the Kazungula border as the hinge. Because the borders add time each way, give each place a night, not an hour.
Option one: Kasane and Victoria Falls
Spend the first night in Kasane, in Botswana, about 8 km west of the Kazungula Bridge. Take an afternoon game drive in Chobe National Park, then a morning river cruise of about three hours. On the second day cross to Zambia for Livingstone and the Falls, roughly 80 km from the bridge, and stay a night near Livingstone. A third day can cover Livingstone Island, where Devil’s Pool swimming is usually possible from about mid-August to mid-January, depending on river level. A guide is compulsory.
Option two: a Namibian river lodge
Two lodges sit on the Namibian bank of the Chobe, and both are reached by boat from Kasane. Chobe Water Villas is in the Kasika Conservancy, facing Chobe National Park and Sedudu Island, about 15 minutes by boat. Ichingo Chobe River Lodge is on Impalila Island, and the island is known for birding, with Pel’s fishing owl and African finfoot on operator itineraries. A two-night stay suits either, and you clear Namibian immigration at Kasane.
Option three: the Falls side
Base yourself at the Victoria Falls side for the bungee off the Victoria Falls Bridge, 111 m, run by Shearwater, and for white-water rafting in the Batoka Gorge below the Falls. Rafting is not available at Kazungula, where the Zambezi is wide and flat. Low water from about August to December gives the longest runs, and operators can close rafting in high water, so check with them before you book.
Visas and passports
The KAZA UniVisa costs US$50, lasts 30 days and is multiple entry between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It covers day trips into Botswana, not an overnight stay in Botswana or onward travel to Namibia. UK passport holders need no visa for 90 days in Zambia or Botswana, so for them the UniVisa is not needed. For an overnight in Botswana, your own visa status applies. Passports need six months of validity, with two blank pages for Zambia and three for Botswana. Check the current process before you travel.
Money and driving
Zambia uses the kwacha, Botswana the pula, and many operators quote in US dollars. If you drive across the bridge, a per-vehicle toll applies, so check current rates. Cash is needed at Sedudu Gate, where park fees are about BWP 270 per adult per day from April 2026 and card machines can be unreliable.
Staying safe
Do not swim in the Zambezi or the Chobe, where crocodiles and hippos live. Walk riverfronts only with a licensed guide. Chobe District is a malaria area, with the highest risk from about November to April, so take medical advice on antimalarials. Follow normal precautions and check current entry rules before you travel.
