Canyoning, Ziplines and Bridges in Arenal
Ticketed attractions around Arenal
Most visitors book two or three paid attractions in La Fortuna, and prices vary a lot from one to the next. The figures below are rounded, in US dollars, and meant as a guide. Many parks add 13 percent IVA, so confirm the final total with the operator.
Canyoning with Pure Trek
Pure Trek runs waterfall canyoning in a private rainforest canyon. The standard trip costs about $103, takes around 4 hours and includes 4 rappels: three waterfalls and one rock wall, plus a rock climb and a “monkey drop”. The Rainforest Falls trip is about $125 and includes a rappel down a waterfall of about 32 m. The minimum age is 5. These are trade rack rates plus 13 percent IVA, and combos with lunch and a hotel transfer are sold.
Sky Adventures Arenal
Sky Adventures runs its aerial tram, hanging-bridge walk and zipline at its Arenal site only. Rough adult prices are about $51 for the Sky Tram, about $41 for the Sky Walk and about $93 for the Sky Trek zipline. Transport is not included, and combos cost about $90 to $107 or more. Zip-lining is often excluded from travel insurance, so check your cover and keep to an established operator.
Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges
Mistico is a self-guided or guided walk on a 3.2 km trail with 16 bridges, six of them hanging, up to 45 m above the forest floor. Self-guided entry starts at $32 plus tax, guided walks at $44, and night, bird and twilight tours at $54. The park is open 6am to 3:50pm. Closed-toe shoes with good grip are required. Booking ahead is recommended.
Arenal Observatory Lodge and the Nest tower
The lodge sells an entrance pass of about $20 to $22 and a day pass with lunch for $40. It has 11 km of trails, an 800 m wheelchair-accessible trail and The Nest, an observation tower of about 28 m with views of the volcano and the lake.
Arenal 1968 reserve
Arenal 1968 is a private reserve with its own ticket, about $25 for adults. It is open about 8am to 5pm with last entry about 4pm, and its trails cross black lava fields from the 1968 eruption. The combined trails add up to about 7 km. Child rates vary, so ask at the gate.
