Things to Do in Suva and Pacific Harbour
Where Central Division Sits
Central Division covers the south-east of Viti Levu plus Beqa Island. Suva and Nausori are in Rewa, Pacific Harbour and Navua in Serua, the Namosi Highlands and Upper Navua in Namosi, Colo-i-Suva in Naitasiri, and Tailevu completes the set. Nadi, Denarau, Sigatoka and the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands belong to the Western Division. Suva is about 197 km and 3.5 to 4 hours from Nadi by Queens Road coach, so ask Sunbeam or Pacific Transport for the current fare. Prices below are in Fijian dollars (FJ$), at roughly FJ$2.15 to 2.25 per US$1.
Beqa Lagoon Shark Dive
Beqa Adventure Divers runs this from its base on Fairway Place in Pacific Harbour. It is a two-tank scuba dive for certified divers, FJ$500, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings. Add the FJ$25 Shark Reef Marine Reserve levy and a FJ$20 fuel surcharge and a dive day comes to about FJ$545 before gear. The rate covers tanks and weights; gear is FJ$30 per item or FJ$50 for a full package. Several shark species turn up, bull sharks most reliably. The sharks are fed, which conservationists debate; the operator says the levy pays for reef wardens and research. Check the operator’s requirements before you book. Snorkelling is a separate FJ$100 product.
Upper Navua Gorge Rafting
Rivers Fiji runs a full-day Class II to III raft trip through the Upper Navua Gorge, a run of about 25 km between walls over 40 m high, with many waterfalls. Expect about FJ$440 to 460 with lunch and transfers from the Pacific Harbour office; return transport from Suva adds about FJ$50. The day runs from about 06:45 to 18:00 and suits ages from about 8. The gorge is Fiji’s first Ramsar wetland. Go with the company’s guides and check river levels after heavy rain.
Colo-i-Suva Forest Park
About 20 minutes from central Suva on Princes Road, the park has natural swimming pools fed by Waisila Creek, with clear, cold water. Entry is about FJ$5 for an overseas adult and FJ$1 for a child. A guided walk with the on-site rangers is a good idea. The pools near the rope swings can be slippery, so wear proper footwear and follow the trail markers. Go in daylight, not alone, keep to the main paths, carry little and do not resist a robbery. The park closed after heavy rain in May 2026, so check that it is open before you go.
Damodar Arts Village
Pacific Harbour’s arts village reopened in October 2025 as Damodar Arts Village on Hibiscus Drive. The cultural show includes meke performances, Beqa firewalking and a kava ceremony in a recreated island village, and there is an Island Tour and an open-air cinema. Ask the village for show days and times and the ticket price; tickets also come through reception or TicketMax.
Suva Municipal Market
Find it at Usher Street and Rodwell Road. Produce, flowers and coconut products fill the ground floor; kava and dry goods are upstairs. Go early, because it is closed on Sunday, and entry is free. Carry cash for the stalls.
Navua River With Discover Fiji Tours
The operator, based in Navua, lists river canoeing, bamboo rafting, the Magic Waterfall, a village tour and its Jewel of Fiji day. Call +679 905 0902 for the current price and days.
Weather, Water and Tax
Cyclone season normally runs 1 November to 30 April, though cyclones can occur at any time. Suva is on the wet windward side, and heavy rain brings flooding, landslides and road closures. Rip tides along reefs and river estuaries are a real hazard, so use fully licensed operators. VAT is 12.5 percent, and a 5 percent Tourism Services Tax may be added to larger operators’ prices from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027.
