Lautoka Sightseeing: Temples, Mill, Harbour
Sights Within the City
Lautoka’s main sights sit close together in the centre. The sugar mill, a temple, a mosque, a park and the harbour waterfront all fall within a short drive or a walk. Several are places of worship, so dress modestly and ask before you photograph people. Prices are in Fijian dollars (FJ$).
Lautoka Sugar Mill
The mill stands at 169 Vitogo Parade and was built in 1903, according to the city council. It is the largest employer in the city. There are no public factory tours, but you can see the activity around the mill and the port conveyors from the road near Marine Drive. Crushing runs from about June to December (Lautoka City Council ).
Sri Krishna Kaliya Temple
This is the first ISKCON temple in Fiji, at 5 Tavewa Avenue, with murals and sculptures inside. Visitors are welcome. There is a Sunday feast and a noon puja, with separate seating for men and women. Remove your shoes and cover shoulders and knees (ISKCON Lautoka ).
Lautoka Jame Masjid
The white-marble mosque at 1 Mana Street holds about 4,000 people and was completed in 2019. Admire it from outside first, ask permission before entering, avoid prayer times and dress modestly.
Churchill Park
Churchill Park faces Vitogo Parade. It hosts the Lautoka Sugar Festival, with the 2026 edition set for 14 to 21 November on the Carnival grounds. The park is also one of several venues for Fijian Drua rugby matches.
Marine Drive and the Harbour
The harbour waterfront on Marine Drive faces west, so it is the place for sunset. The Tanoa Waterfront Hotel’s Sunset Bar and Fins Restaurant overlook the water, and the restaurant is open from 06:00 to 23:30.
Global Girmit Institute Museum
The museum at Saweni, beside the Global Girmit Institute library, has stood since 2018. It records the history of indentured labour in Fiji between 1879 and 1916, a subject that deserves a quiet, respectful visit. Contact the Institute for opening hours before you go.
Viseisei Village
Viseisei at Vuda Point is traditionally described as Fiji’s oldest settlement. Visits are guided and require modest dress.
Getting Around
Taxis and buses link the sights, and the city centre is walkable. Allow about 30 minutes by road between Nadi Airport and Lautoka.
