Attraction Tours Around Lautoka and Ba
Choosing a Tour
Lautoka’s best attractions are outside the city centre, so most visitors join a guided trip or hire a driver. Koroyanitu is inland to the east, Navala sits in the Ba highlands, and the Sabeto valley lies inland near Nadi Airport. Prices below are in Fijian dollars (FJ$) unless an operator quotes another currency.
Koroyanitu Guided Hikes
All trails start at the Abaca Visitor Centre, where staff arrange guides, village lunches and homestays. Mt Batilamu needs a guide in practice, and the climb takes about 4 hours one way. Talanoa Treks is named by Tourism Fiji and Fiji Journal for Batilamu trips. Park entry is about FJ$25 to 30 per person, and guide and lunch cost extra. Wear a sulu over trousers or shorts inside the village boundary. A sevusevu gift of kava root is respectful but optional at Abaca (Tourism Fiji ).
Navala Village
Navala is an iTaukei village of more than 200 thatched bure, set in the Ba highlands. The road runs sealed along the Kings Road to Ba, then about 25 km of gravel. Allow 2 to 3 hours each way from Lautoka. Entry is about FJ$25 to 30 per person including a guide. A kava gift for the chief is customary, and tour operators handle the protocol. Reseller pages show guided trips from Nadi and Lautoka at roughly A$95 to 135 per person. One operator reports no village visits on Sundays.
Garden of the Sleeping Giant
This orchid garden on Wailoko Road in the Sabeto valley has a jungle walk and a lily pond. Older press mentions more than 2,000 orchid varieties. Adult admission has been quoted anywhere from about FJ$18 to FJ$30, and opening days differ between sources, so check before you go (Garden of the Sleeping Giant ).
Sabeto and Tifajek Mud Pools
Two neighbouring operators run mud pools and hot springs in the Sabeto valley, about FJ$30 per person at the gate, in cash. The routine is to coat yourself in mud, dry in the sun, then rinse in the thermal pools. Massage costs extra. Allow roughly 40 to 45 minutes by road from central Lautoka.
Viseisei Village
Viseisei, at Vuda Point, is traditionally described as Fiji’s oldest settlement. Visits are guided, take about 30 minutes in the village and need modest dress. Reported entry fees run from free to FJ$10, and one operator says the village is closed on Sundays.
City and Cruise-Port Tours
Operators run half-day Lautoka tours and cruise-port excursions covering the market, Jame Masjid, the Sri Krishna Kaliya Temple and Viseisei. The sugar mill is a drive-by stop only, because there are no public mill tours.
