Romantic Stays on Beqa and in Suva
Where the Romance Is
Suva is a working capital rather than a beach resort, so the romantic stays in Central Division are on Beqa Lagoon and in Pacific Harbour, with the Grand Pacific Hotel as the city’s one grand address. There is no beach in Suva made for couples, so plan around the lagoon, the hills and a few well-chosen evenings. Figures are in Fijian dollars (FJ$) unless marked as USD.
Royal Davui Island Resort
Royal Davui is on Ugaga Island in Beqa Lagoon, a tiny island of about 8 acres with 16 villas. The villas are plunge-pool bungalows, and the resort takes guests aged 16 and over, so it works as an adults-only escape. Rates start from about USD 900 a night. Contact the resort for current rates and boat transfers.
Beqa Lagoon Resort
This resort on Beqa Island offers bures, or thatched cottages, on an island with no roads or cars. It runs dive packages, and firewalking is staged there. Boats leave from Pacific Harbour; ask the resort for rates and transfer times.
Grand Pacific Hotel, Suva
The hotel on Victoria Parade opened on 23 May 1914, closed in 1992 and reopened in May 2014 after restoration. The Victoria Lounge serves high tea, and Albert Park lies opposite, where Charles Kingsford Smith landed the Southern Cross in 1928. Ask the hotel for the current high tea price.
Namosi Eco Retreat
A quiet river escape: the retreat at Navunikabi Village on the Luva River is village-run, off-grid and solar powered, with 10 refurbished bures. It is about 2 hours by road from Suva, and guests cross the river on foot. Contact the retreat directly to plan a stay.
An Evening Out in Pacific Harbour
Damodar Arts Village on Hibiscus Drive reopened in October 2025. Its evening cultural show brings together meke, Beqa firewalking and a kava ceremony, and the Starlight Cinema screens films in the open air. Check the village for times and ticket prices.
Making the Trip Work
Allow for transfers: Pacific Harbour is about 45 to 60 minutes from Suva by road, and Beqa needs a boat on top of that. The Pearl South Pacific and Nanuku are Pacific Harbour resorts that appear in Tourism Fiji coverage if you prefer to stay on the mainland. Cyclone season normally runs 1 November to 30 April, though cyclones can occur at any time. A 5 percent Tourism Services Tax may be added to larger operators’ prices from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027.
