Multi-Day Trips from Lautoka by Land and Sea
Overnight Options
Lautoka works as a starting point for stays in the mountains, in the Yasawa Islands and along the Kings Road. Prices are in Fijian dollars (FJ$) unless an operator quotes another currency. Cyclone season runs from 1 November to 30 April, and inter-island boats can be cancelled in rough weather.
Koroyanitu Overnight
Koroyanitu National Heritage Park is about 15 km from Lautoka on a rough gravel road. You can stay at Nase Lodge, a 40-minute walk from Abaca village, at a lodge near the summit, or in a village homestay. Bring warm layers, a torch and food. All trails begin at the Abaca Visitor Centre, which arranges guides and village lunches. Park entry is about FJ$25 to 30 per person, and Mt Batilamu takes about 4 hours one way (Tourism Fiji ).
Yasawa Islands by Tavewa Seabus
The Tavewa Seabus leaves Kings Jetty in Lautoka every day at 07:30, with check-in at 06:30. The crossing takes 1 to 5 hours depending on the stop. Resorts on its route include Barefoot Kuata, Wayalailai, Mantaray, Barefoot Manta, Coralview, Nabua Lodge and Turtle Island. Ask the operator for current fares, and note that the office is in the FPCL Building on Waterfront Road (Fiji Pocket Guide ).
The Yasawa Flyer
The hop-on hop-off alternative is the Yasawa Flyer, which leaves Port Denarau in the morning. Day-return and week passes exist. Getting to Denarau from Lautoka adds time at the start and end of the trip.
Ba, Navala and the Kings Road
The Kings Road runs north from Lautoka to Ba and on toward Tavua and Rakiraki. A loop from Lautoka to Ba to Navala suits a night in the highlands. Allow 2 to 3 hours each way to Navala, with about 25 km of gravel beyond Ba.
Vanua Levu by Bus and Ferry
Patterson Brothers runs a bus from Lautoka to Ellington Wharf, then a ferry to Nabouwalu and onward to Labasa, twice a week on Monday and Friday. The bus leaves around 4 am, so confirm the schedule with the Lautoka office.
A Three-Day Shape
- Day 1: Lautoka city and Vuda Point, with the market, temple, botanical gardens and a sunset at the marina.
- Day 2: Koroyanitu or Navala, with the Navala option needing a full day.
- Day 3: Tivua or Malamala from Port Denarau, leaving Lautoka early because the transfer to Denarau adds time.
Where to Stay
Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka has two pools, Fins Restaurant and a Sunset Bar (Tanoa Hotels ). Vuda Point has more beach-oriented stays.
