Walks in Jagodina and Around Pomoravlje
Walking in Pomoravlje District is about short strolls and footpaths rather than a medieval old quarter to wander through. The district has no historic walled town centre, so the best walks are a stroll through Jagodina, a park by the zoo and two nature walks in the hills and on the Grza river. Wear comfortable shoes with grip, and expect Cyrillic-only signs outside the towns.
Jagodina town centre
Jagodina is the district seat, at 43.9772 N, 21.2612 E, on the flat plain of the Velika Morava. The centre is compact and easy to cover on foot, and its main cultural stop is the Museum of Naive and Marginal Art at Boška Đuričića 10. The museum is open Tuesday to Friday 10:00 to 18:00, Saturday 10:00 to 16:00 and Sunday 10:00 to 15:00, and the museum site gives details. Plan the walk around those hours, because the museum closes earlier on weekends.
Đurđevo Brdo park
Đurđevo Brdo is a park about 2 km from the Jagodina centre. It holds Jagodina Zoo and has the wax museum nearby. Walking there from the centre is straightforward, and the park is a pleasant place for a longer stroll. Check each venue’s hours before you go.
Lisine footpath to Veliki Buk
The footpath at the Lisine natural monument leads to the Veliki Buk waterfall, which is about 20 m high. Lisine lies about 20 km east of Despotovac, below the Beljanica hills. The monument has first-category protection, so walk the paths only, leave nothing behind and do not climb on the rock. The waterfall is fed by the Veliko Vrelo spring, so the ground near it can be wet and slippery after rain.
Vrelo Grze near Paraćin
Vrelo Grze is a protected natural monument of the third category on the Grza river. It is managed by the Paraćin Tourist Organisation and has trails, and it lies roughly 15 to 25 km from Paraćin. Ask in town for directions before you set out.
Resava Cave as a walk
The cave tour is a guided walk of about 800 m along the prepared route, in a system about 4.5 km long. Tours leave at 08:30 and every 45 minutes thereafter, with the last at 15:30. An adult ticket is 700 RSD, and the cave is cold and damp, so wear shoes with grip and bring a jacket. The operator has the current schedule.
Walking in the monasteries
Manasija, Ravanica and Kalenić are active monasteries, and walking around the grounds is part of a visit. Cover your shoulders and knees, ask before taking photographs inside any church and keep your voice low.
