Two Nights in Pomoravlje District
Pomoravlje District suits a short stay of one or two nights rather than a long holiday. The sights are spread over six municipalities, and the whole district is easy to reach from the E75/A1 motorway between Belgrade and Niš. Jagodina is the district seat and the most practical base. This page lays out a two-night plan and a monastery extension. Prices are in Serbian dinars (RSD).
Check current travel advice before you go and avoid protest gatherings, since demonstrations can disrupt transport at short notice.
Where to stay
Jagodina has the most choice and sits on the motorway, about 140 km from Belgrade and about 100 km from Niš. Rural stays near Despotovac or Paraćin put you closer to the cave and the hills, and a car is needed to reach them. Compare rooms by the night on a booking site and check the distance to the sights before you reserve.
Day one: Jagodina and Svilajnac
Spend the morning in Jagodina at the Museum of Naive and Marginal Art, open Tuesday to Friday 10:00 to 18:00, Saturday 10:00 to 16:00 and Sunday 10:00 to 15:00. The gallery was founded in 1960 and sits at Boška Đuričića 10. In the afternoon drive on to the Natural History Centre of Serbia in Svilajnac, where adults pay 850 RSD and children aged 3 to 12 pay 550 RSD. Arrive at least an hour before closing, because last entry is 60 minutes before the doors shut.
Day two: the Resava valley
Drive east to Despotovac and start at Resava Cave in Jelovac, 21 km from Despotovac. Tours begin at 08:30 and then every 45 minutes until 15:30, and an adult ticket is 700 RSD. The operator site has the details, and the cave is cold, so bring a jacket. Afterwards, drive to the Veliki Buk waterfall at Lisine, about 20 m high, and then call at Manasija monastery, 2 km northwest of Despotovac, where the ramparts are under restoration until 2027.
Day three: monastery route
If you have a third day, add Kalenić in Rekovac municipality and Ravanica in Senje, near Ćuprija. Both are active monastic communities, so cover shoulders and knees and ask before taking photographs inside a church. The Senjski Rudnik coal mining museum is also in Senje and opened in 1982.
Moving between stops
Distances inside the district are short by road, but Despotovac, Manasija and the cave are a car or organised tour trip. Rural signs are often in Cyrillic only, so a phone map helps. If you arrive in summer, the Aqua Park in Jagodina is open and can fill a spare afternoon.
