Day Trips from Jagodina and Despotovac
Pomoravlje District works well as a set of day trips by car. Jagodina, on the Belgrade to Niš corridor, is the natural base for the western plain, while Despotovac anchors the hilly east. Prices below are in Serbian dinars (RSD). Check current travel advice before you leave and avoid protest gatherings, as demonstrations can disrupt transport at short notice.
The Resava valley circuit
This is the headline day out. Start in Despotovac, visit Manasija monastery 2 km to the northwest, then drive to Resava Cave in the village of Jelovac, 21 km from Despotovac. Add the Veliki Buk waterfall at Lisine, about 20 km east of Despotovac, if time allows.
Book the cave tour for the first slots of the day. The operator runs tours from 08:30, every 45 minutes, with the last at 15:30, and an adult ticket is 700 RSD. The cave road has been closed on days of military exercises, so look at the operator notice before setting out. Wear a jacket for the cold interior and shoes with grip.
Keep Manasija for a calm part of the day. It is an active monastery, so cover shoulders and knees and ask before photographing inside.
Svilajnac and the Natural History Centre
The Natural History Centre of Serbia in Svilajnac suits a half day. Adults pay 850 RSD and children aged 3 to 12 pay 550 RSD. Last entry is 60 minutes before closing, and the dino park has life-size dinosaur replicas. Hours may be longer in July and August, so check before you leave. See the centre’s ticket page .
Kalenić, Paraćin and Vrelo Grze
Kalenić monastery lies in Rekovac municipality and is another active monastic community. Pair it with Paraćin, where the Vrelo Grze natural monument sits on the Grza river. The site has third-category protection and is managed by the Paraćin Tourist Organisation. Distances from Paraćin are roughly 15 to 25 km, so ask locally for the route.
Senje: Ravanica and the mining museum
In Senje, in Ćuprija municipality, you can combine Ravanica monastery with the Senjski Rudnik coal mining museum, which opened on 1 May 1982. The museum site has a steam engine from 1874 and Aleksandar’s adit. Senje is roughly 10 to 12 km from Ćuprija town.
Jagodina in town
If you stay in Jagodina itself, the Museum of Naive and Marginal Art is open Tuesday to Sunday, with shorter hours on the weekend (Saturday to 16:00, Sunday to 15:00). Đurđevo Brdo park, about 2 km from the centre, holds the zoo and is near the wax museum. Aqua Park Jagodina is open in summer only.
Planning notes
Despotovac, Manasija and the cave are a car or organised tour trip. Distances from Jagodina are about 140 km to Belgrade and about 100 km to Niš. Rural road signs are often in Cyrillic only, and a phone map helps.
