Walking Trails Near Latchi, Cyprus

Walking in Latchi means a short harbour stroll and a few longer trails in the Akamas. None needs a guide, but all need water, a hat and shoes with grip. The best months are outside summer, because midday heat from June to August is severe.

Aphrodite Nature Trail

The trail starts at the Baths of Aphrodite, a short drive west of the harbour, or a ride on bus 622. It is a 7.5 km loop that takes 3 to 4 hours and passes the ruins of Pyrgos tis Rigainas. The fountains along the way are not drinkable, so carry all the water you need. Start early in the day.

Adonis loop

The Adonis loop is also 7.5 km. It starts about 400 m before the Baths of Aphrodite, so you can link the two on one outing. Check the signs at the car park to choose the right loop.

Smigies circular trails

Smigies is a Forestry Department picnic site and trailhead in the Akamas Forest, about 2.5 km from Neo Chorio. Two circular nature trails start here. One is 2.5 km and takes about an hour, and the other is 6 km and takes about two hours. The trails run at roughly 273 m to 388 m above sea level. VisitCyprus carries the details.

Latchi to Polis seafront

A flat coastal stroll links the two villages. It is about 4 km one way by road distance. Polis has a free museum, a square with cafes and the bus station, so you can ride bus 622 or 645 back if your legs tire.

Beyond the Baths

The track from the Baths of Aphrodite on to Fontana Amorosa and the Blue Lagoon is rough, with exposed drops. On foot it is about 6 km each way from the Baths car park, which is 1.5 to 2 hours each way. Plan the return before you set out and bring more water than you expect to need. The Blue Lagoon is easier to reach by boat from Latchi.

Avakas Gorge

Avakas Gorge is closed to visitors, and it sits on the Pegeia and Kathikas side rather than near Latchi. The Forestry Department lists the current status.

Practical tips

Wear closed shoes, carry sun protection and tell someone where you are going. Do not feed or follow wildlife, and in the Akamas stay on the marked paths. Bus 622 leaves Polis at 06:00 and then hourly from 08:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00, and returns from the Baths at 06:30 and then hourly from 08:30 to 12:30 and from 14:30 to 18:30.
