Romantic Lindos: Sunsets, Sails, Dinners
Lindos suits couples, with narrow village lanes beneath an ancient acropolis and a small bay with a chapel on the shore. The best moments are early and late, when the heat drops. This page gathers the places and plans that suit two people.
St Paul’s Bay at sunset
St Paul’s Bay lies south of the Acropolis rock, a small, almost enclosed bay with a chapel, Agios Pavlos, on its edge. Local legend says the apostle Paul landed here, and the chapel is a popular wedding setting, with free access. For a late swim, remember that most entry is over rock, so bring water shoes, and check the flags and conditions because the meltemi can strengthen in the afternoon. Tambakio is a beach restaurant on the bay and a pleasant place for a drink or a meal by the water. Sunbeds are paid.
A sail for two
Local operators sell sunset and aperitivo-style sailing trips from St Paul’s Bay, and Gin Tonic Lindos Sailing runs a six-hour trip with four swim stops for about €70 through resellers. Choose a late-afternoon departure if you want the evening light, and book ahead in summer. Browse sunset sailing from Lindos for current departures.
Dinner
Mavrikos is a family restaurant that has served Lindos since 1933, and a table in high season is worth booking ahead. Many restaurants here are seasonal, so confirm that your choice is open for your dates.
Where to stay
Two boutique options are well known. Melenos Lindos is an art boutique hotel. Lindos Blu is a clifftop resort at Vlycha Bay, with infinity pools. Look at Lindos hotels for current rooms and rates. The village is car-free, so you walk in from the edge, and bags must be carried over cobbled, stepped lanes.
Walks for two
After dinner, walk the lanes below the Acropolis, with their pebble-mosaic courtyards and old captains’ doorways. For the Acropolis itself, go early, when the stone is cool and the light is soft. Admission is about €20 full price, with timed slots, and the climb is steep, with almost no shade and slippery stone, so wear trainers. Check hhticket.gr for hours and prices. There is no lift.
Season and safety
Summer is hot, with temperatures regularly above 35 C in July and August, and evenings are cooler. The village is quiet in winter, and many places close. The countryside around Lindos carries a high wildfire risk between April and October, and the UK government advice asks visitors to heed local guidance and 112 alerts.
