Multi-Day Trips Around Latchi
Latchi is a good base for two to three days, though it is small and not a place for a long itinerary. The standard plan is a boat day, a walking day and a town day, using Latchi and Polis for beds and Paphos only as a day out.
Day one: the sea
Spend the first day on the water. A shared Blue Lagoon cruise from the harbour takes 2.5 to 3 hours with a swim stop, and the sea trip is about 30 to 45 minutes each way. Booking sites show shared trips from about EUR 15 to 25. If you prefer to steer, George’s Boat Hire lists an Eco Line self-drive boat at about EUR 180 for four hours, and Latchi Watersports Centre hires boats too. The operator checks your licence and briefs you. Eat a fish meze at the harbour in the evening.
Day two: the Akamas on foot
Take bus 622 or a car to the Baths of Aphrodite, then walk. The Aphrodite Nature Trail is a 7.5 km loop of 3 to 4 hours and passes the ruins of Pyrgos tis Rigainas. Carry water, because the fountains are not drinkable. The Adonis loop is also 7.5 km and starts about 400 m before the Baths. For something gentler, the Smigies trail in the Akamas Forest has circuits of 2.5 km (about 1 hour) and 6 km (about 2 hours), and the picnic site is about 2.5 km from Neo Chorio.
Day three: Polis, Pomos or Paphos
Polis is 4 km east. Its Marion-Arsinoe Archaeological Museum is free and opens Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:00 and Saturday from 09:00 to 15:00. Pomos has a small harbour and the Dragon Cave. For a bigger outing, Paphos is 40 to 45 km away and has Kato Paphos Archaeological Park at EUR 4.50 and the Tombs of the Kings at EUR 2.50.
Dive option
Divers can swap day one for boat dives with Latchi Watersports Centre, a PADI 5 Star IDC Resort. Its trips go to a wall dive around St George’s Island at 30 m or more and to shallower Akamas sites at about 10 m. Ask the centre for dive and course prices.
When to go
Boat trips and water sports run mainly from May to October. Winter walking in the Akamas is pleasant, and some boat services run outside the main window, so confirm what is running. Summer midday heat is severe, so start walks early and carry water.
Getting around
Bus 622 links Polis, Prodromi, Latchi and the Baths of Aphrodite, and route 645 links Paphos Karavella with Polis in about an hour. A hire car gives freedom on the paved roads, but the track beyond the Baths is rough, and most rental contracts exclude unpaved roads. Anything east of Paphos or inland to the Troodos belongs to a different base, and Cape Greco is roughly 2.5 to 3 hours each way.
Where to stay
Look at rooms in Latchi for harbour mornings and at Polis for a wider choice of shops. Search Latchi hotels and apartments , read the Cyprus Mail guide to the Blue Lagoon , and check the route 622 timetable .
