Latchi Activities: Boats, Diving, Fish Meze
Latchi (also spelled Latsi) is a small harbour village on Chrysochou Bay in the north-west of the Republic of Cyprus, about 4 km west of Polis and 40 to 45 km from Paphos. The currency is the euro and traffic drives on the left. The village was an old carob export port, and its stone warehouses now hold restaurants. Most visitors come for what leaves the harbour: boats, dive trips and water sports. The UK Foreign Office has no advice against travel to Cyprus.
Blue Lagoon cruises
The Blue Lagoon is the main reason people book a boat here. Shared cruises leave the harbour and take about 30 to 45 minutes each way, and a full trip lasts 2.5 to 3 hours with a swim stop. Operators include Cyprus Mini Cruises (the Nafsika II and the Koulla), the Alkion glass-bottom boat, Paphos Sea Cruises and Latchi Queen.
On its own website Cyprus Mini Cruises lists Nafsika II sailings at about 10:15 and 13:00, each lasting around 2.5 hours with fruit, local wine and orange squash, plus a sunset barbecue cruise from 16:00 until sunset. Booking sites show shared trips from about EUR 15 to 25 per adult, and the four-hour barbecue cruise from about EUR 20. Times and prices change, so check the operator before you go. The main season runs roughly from May to October, and sailings can be cancelled in strong wind.
Drive your own boat
Two harbour firms hire self-drive motorboats. Latchi Watersports Centre asks for a car driving licence, wants the hirer to be over 21 and offers boats from 50 hp to 250 hp. George’s Boat Hire has operated from the harbour since 1989 and lists an Eco Line boat at about EUR 180 for four hours. Rules for visitors differ by operator and nationality, so confirm the licence and age requirements when you book, and expect a briefing before you leave the dock.
Diving and water sports
Latchi Watersports Centre is a PADI 5 Star IDC Resort that has operated for more than four decades. It runs daily boat dives, including a wall dive around St George’s Island that drops to 30 m or more, and shallower sites in the Akamas at about 10 m. The same centre rents jet skis, paddleboards, canoes and pedalos, and runs parasailing, banana and tube rides. Its harbour office is open from 08:00 to 20:00. Ask for current prices at the desk.
Harbour meals
A fish meze for two or more is the usual order at the harbour tavernas. Porto Latchi, Faros, Psaropoulos, Restomare and Yiangos and Peter (Y&P) all sit on the water. Opening hours can shorten in winter, so check before you walk down.
On land
Past the harbour the road leads to the Baths of Aphrodite, a grotto pool and botanical garden at the start of the Aphrodite and Adonis trails. Admission is free, and visitors are asked not to swim or wade in the pool. Polis, 4 km east, has shops, a free museum and the bus link to Paphos.
