Romantic Polis: Sunset Cruises and Anassa
Romance in Polis is quiet and mostly about the sea at the end of the day. Polis Chrysochous is a small town in the north-west of the Republic of Cyprus, about 35 km from Paphos, so there are few formal attractions, and what you get is a harbour, a long beach and one hotel built for couples. The currency is the euro and traffic drives on the left.
Sunset on the water
Sunset trips leave Latchi harbour, a short drive west of Polis. The Latchi Queen runs a sunset trip to the Blue Lagoon, and Cyprus Mini Cruises lists sunset departures. Booking sites show daytime cruises at roughly 25 to 30 US dollars per adult, and longer all-inclusive trips from about EUR 65. Check the operator for the exact price and departure time of the sunset trip. Swimming on these trips is from the anchored boat.
A stay at Anassa
Anassa, run by Thanos Hotels, stands at Asprokremmos beach near Neo Chorio, about 8 km west of Polis. A British Airways listing counts 166 rooms, suites and residences, and the resort completed a EUR 10 million refurbishment in 2026. Rates and room types change by season, so compare current listings before you choose.
Dinner at the harbour
Latchi is a working fishing harbour with fish tavernas along the water, which makes an easy end to a sunset sail. Ask your hotel which taverna suits an evening out.
A garden walk at the Baths of Aphrodite
The Baths of Aphrodite are about 11 km west of Polis, a small grotto pool and botanical garden under an old fig tree. Entry is free. Visitors are asked not to swim or wade in the pool, so treat it as a short, shaded garden walk, ideally in the cooler hours of the morning or late afternoon. If you want a longer walk, the Aphrodite Nature Trail is a 7.5 km loop of 3 to 4 hours from the same spot, with views toward Cape Arnaoutis and Polis. The two fountains on the route are not drinkable, so carry water.
A swim together
For swimming, use Polis Chrysochous Municipal Beach, which has deep golden sand and is on the 2026 Blue Flag list, or the Camping Site (Dasoudi) beach of sand and pebbles. Lifeguards work both beaches from April to October.
What to expect
Polis is a small place, and a romantic stay here means two or three unhurried days, not a list of activities. A short trip to Paphos, about 35 km away, adds more sights. Bus 645 runs between Paphos Karavella and Polis in about an hour, roughly hourly, for about EUR 2. For times, see pafosbuses.com .
Look at hotels in Polis Chrysochous for current rates, check the Anassa website for the hotel itself and the VisitCyprus page on the Baths of Aphrodite .
