Guided Tours and Packages in Åndalsnes
Åndalsnes is a small town, and organised attraction tours here are few. Most visitors do the main sights on their own: the gondola, the viewpoints, the train and the roads. A handful of guided and packaged options exist, mostly in summer, and this page lists them along with the sights that need no guide.
Guided via ferrata from Norsk Tindesenter
The one guided activity with a clear price is Romsdalsstigen via ferrata, run from Norsk Tindesenter at Havnegata 2. The Vestveggen route is graded D, takes 5 to 6 hours, climbs to the summit of Nesaksla and requires a minimum age of 16. It costs from about NOK 1,675. The easier Introveggen route is grade B, takes 3 to 4 hours and accepts ages 12 and up. Tours run from about 1 June to 20 October. A guide is recommended, and you need to be comfortable with heights. The FjordNorway listing for Norsk Tindesenter describes the centre.
Gondola with a guided hike
FjordNorway lists tours that combine the Romsdalsgondolen with a guided walk to the Rampestreken viewpoint at 537 m. The gondola climbs to 708 m in about 5 to 7 minutes, and Rampestreken is about 15 minutes on foot from the top station. Gondola prices are tiered by season, roughly NOK 460 to 625 for an adult return. Check romsdalen.no for current fares and opening hours.
Golden Train and meal packages
A Golden Train tourist service runs between Åndalsnes and Bjorli in summer. Packages that combine the train, the gondola and a meal at Eggen restaurant, at the top of the gondola, are also listed. Look at the dates and what is included before booking, because these runs are seasonal.
Cruise excursions
Passengers on Hurtigruten ships can join an excursion called Åndalsnes town walk and Romsdal gondola. It is sold to cruise guests only, so independent travellers should use the gondola and walking routes described elsewhere on this site.
Sights that need no tour
Several of the town’s best attractions are easy to visit independently:
- Trollveggen Besøkssenter at Horgheimseidet on the E136 has a 14-minute film, a cafeteria and a shop.
- Norsk Tindemuseum inside Norsk Tindesenter is open for entry from about NOK 90, and the building also has a climbing wall.
- The Rauma Line runs the 114 km to Dombås in about 1 hour 17 minutes, crossing the Kylling Bridge.
- Rødven Stave Church, about 34 km away by Rv64, offers guided visits in summer. Check stavechurch.com for hours.
Tips
Bring waterproof layers even for a short outing, because mountain weather changes quickly. Compare the few tour listings on GetYourGuide with the operators’ own pages before paying.
