Polis With Kids: Beaches and Boat Trips
Polis Chrysochous is a calm, small-town base for families, and the options here are modest. The town has two beaches, boat trips leave from nearby Latchi, and there is one small museum. The currency is the euro and traffic drives on the left.
Polis Municipal Beach
Polis Chrysochous Municipal Beach has deep golden sand and calm water, and it is on the 2026 Blue Flag list. It has toilets and showers and a Seatrac sea-access chair for visitors who need help reaching the water. Lifeguards work from April to October. Lifeguard cover is thinner in some summers, so look for a staffed post before children swim.
Camping Site (Dasoudi) beach
This is a separate beach with sand and pebbles, and it has facilities and lifeguards in season. You reach it by road, not on foot, so plan for the car or a taxi. Pebbles are hard on small feet, so pack beach shoes.
A boat trip with a swim stop
A Blue Lagoon cruise from Latchi harbour lasts about 2.5 to 3 hours, and swimming is from the anchored boat. Some operators offer lifejackets, and a lifejacket for each child is worth asking about when you book. Booking sites show basic cruises at roughly 25 to 30 US dollars per adult, and prices for children differ by operator. The lagoon is busiest from 11:00 to 14:00 in summer, and the sun is strong then, so bring hats and water.
Marion-Arsinoe museum
The Local Archaeological Museum of Marion-Arsinoe is at Leoforos Makariou III 26 in Polis. It is small, with two rooms and an atrium: a chronological room from the Neolithic to the Medieval period, and a second room with finds from the local necropolis. It suits a short rainy or hot-afternoon visit. VisitCyprus lists it as free, open 08:00 to 16:00 Monday to Friday and 09:00 to 15:00 on Saturday, and closed on Sunday and public holidays. Check the posted hours at the door, since opening times and any small ticket fee can vary.
The Baths of Aphrodite
The Baths of Aphrodite are a short, free look at a small grotto pool and botanical garden shaded by an old fig tree. The pool is not for swimming, and visitors are asked to stay out of it. The Aphrodite trail that starts here takes 3 to 4 hours and has no drinkable water on the way, which is long for small children.
Safety notes
- The Akamas track beyond the Baths has steep drops, and quad-bike accidents are frequent there.
- Lara Bay is a protected turtle beach with strict rules, and the track to it is rough.
- Pack sun cream, hats and water for every outing.
