Boat and 4x4 Tours Around Polis
Most organised tours in the Polis area are of two kinds: boats from Latchi harbour and four-wheel-drive trips onto the Akamas peninsula. Polis Chrysochous sits in the Paphos District, about 35 km from Paphos, and Latchi is a short drive west. The currency is the euro.
Boat tours from Latchi
Blue Lagoon cruises are the standard tour. Named boats on booking sites include Nafsika II and Koulla (Cyprus Mini Cruises), Atlantis Boat Latchi and Paphos Sea Cruises, and the Latchi Queen runs a sunset trip. Glass-bottom boat tours also leave from Latchi. A basic cruise takes about 2.5 to 3 hours, with the swim stop made from the anchored boat. Some tours include fruit and local wine, and some lend snorkelling kit, so read the inclusions before booking.
Booking-site prices for a basic cruise are roughly 25 to 30 US dollars per adult, and longer all-inclusive trips start from about EUR 65. Prices vary by season and boat. In summer the lagoon is busiest from 11:00 to 14:00.
Guided 4x4 and buggy safaris on the Akamas
Guided safaris take the unpaved tracks of the Akamas that a normal rental car should not attempt. Most operators run these tours from Paphos and Coral Bay rather than from Polis, so ask about pick-up when you book. A tour driver handles the stretch beyond the Baths of Aphrodite, where tarmac ends and the track to Fontana Amorosa has potholes, loose stone and steep drops.
The Cyprus Audit Office flagged quad-bike accidents on these roads as frequent in April 2026. If you book a quad or buggy tour, ask what safety briefing and equipment are included, and wear closed shoes.
Boat and 4x4 combinations
TUI and Musement listings include combined days that pair a boat trip with a 4x4 drive on the Akamas. These cover more ground in one day but start early and run long. Check the pick-up point, the length and what the price includes, since prices on these listings vary.
Tours that are not running
The Avakas Gorge trail has been closed to visitors since 6 December 2025, and chains and signs stand at the entrance. Do not book a tour that includes a stop there, and check with the Forestry Department before any visit. Avakas lies on the Pegeia and Kathikas side of the Akamas, not at Polis.
Tips
- Book a morning sailing in July and August to miss the midday crowds at the lagoon.
- Ask whether a 4x4 tour allows a swim stop, because swimming is not allowed in the pool at the Baths of Aphrodite.
- Check the rental contract if you plan your own drive: most exclude unpaved roads.
