Polis Activities: Boats, Trails, Beaches
Polis Chrysochous is a small town on Chrysochou Bay in the Paphos District, in the north-west of the Republic of Cyprus, about 35 km from Paphos. The currency is the euro and traffic drives on the left. Latchi, the harbour where the boats leave, is a short drive west, and the Akamas coast begins beyond it. Paphos airport is the nearest airport. The UK Foreign Office has no advice against travel to Cyprus.
Blue Lagoon cruises from Latchi
Boats for the Blue Lagoon leave Latchi harbour. Boats named on booking sites include Nafsika II and Koulla (Cyprus Mini Cruises, also listed as Latchi Boat Trips), Atlantis Boat Latchi and Paphos Sea Cruises. A basic cruise lasts about 2.5 to 3 hours, and swimming is from the anchored boat. Some trips serve fruit and local wine, some include snorkelling kit, and the route passes the Akamas coast and the Baths of Aphrodite as seen from the sea.
Booking sites show basic cruises at roughly 25 to 30 US dollars per adult, and longer all-inclusive trips from about EUR 65. Prices change, so check before you pay. The lagoon is crowded between 11:00 and 14:00 in summer, so pick a sailing outside those hours if you can.
Hire a motorboat
A booking listing shows a standard 50 HP self-drive boat at Latchi from about EUR 120 per boat. Fuel and licence rules differ by hire firm, so check the terms when you book.
Polis beaches
Polis has two beaches. Polis Chrysochous Municipal Beach has deep golden sand and is on the 2026 Blue Flag list. The Camping Site (Dasoudi) beach has sand and pebbles and is reached by road, not on foot. Both are lifeguarded from April to October, and you can find sunbeds and water sports in season. Lifeguard cover has been thin in some recent summers, so swim where a lifeguard post is staffed.
The Aphrodite Nature Trail
The trail starts and ends at the Baths of Aphrodite and is a 7.5 km circular walk of 3 to 4 hours. It passes the ruins of Pyrgos tis Rigainas and an old oak, with views toward Cape Arnaoutis and Polis. Two fountains on the route are not drinkable, so carry your own water. The Baths themselves are a small grotto pool and botanical garden, and visitors are asked not to swim or wade in the pool. For a swim, use the beaches at Polis or Latchi.
Cycling toward Fontana Amorosa
Tarmac ends near the Baths of Aphrodite. Beyond it the track toward Fontana Amorosa is unpaved, and a mountain bike is the usual recommendation. The track has potholes, loose stone and steep drops, and quad-bike accidents are frequent. A normal rental car is not suited to it, and most rental contracts exclude unpaved roads.
Getting around
Bus 645 links Paphos Karavella with Polis in about an hour, roughly hourly, for about EUR 2. Route 622 runs from Polis through Prodromi and Latchi to the Baths of Aphrodite. For current times, see pafosbuses.com or call +357 8000 5588.
