Perth Day Trips: 5 Things Worth Doing
Perth’s real trick isn’t the city itself, it’s what sits within reach of it. Five day trips genuinely work from a single Perth base: Rottnest Island’s car-free beaches (the quokka selfie is the least interesting part of it), Fremantle’s UNESCO-listed prison and markets, the Swan Valley wine trail, the otherworldly Pinnacles Desert, and a Rockingham cruise for dolphins and sea lions. Two more get sold online as day trips and are not: Margaret River and Wave Rock are each 3-plus-hour drives one way, and cramming either into a single day wastes the destination and wrecks your day.

Perth: 9 Things Worth Doing (and 3 to Skip)
Kings Park is free, open 24 hours, and larger by area than Central Park, and it beats almost everything else on this list that charges admission. That’s the real headline about Perth: the best things here skew free or cheap, while a couple of the “classic” paid attractions are skippable unless a specific detail sells you. Here are the 9 things in the city itself worth your time, the 3 that aren’t, and why the “free WA Museum” you might have read about stopped being free over a year ago.

Perth: Worth It? An Honest Look
Yes, and the best part of the trip is free. Kings Park, 400 hectares of parkland on Mount Eliza, open 24 hours, roughly 60 hectares bigger than Central Park, costs nothing and beats most of the paid attractions further down this list. Add a genuinely good beach in Cottesloe, a museum precinct that no longer bothers pretending it’s free, and a stadium view that’s more distinctively Perth than the old Bell Tower climb, and the city clears the bar on its own, no Rottnest ferry required.
