Perth Day Trips 4 Day Itinerary

Day 1: Rottnest Island
Ferry from Fremantle or Perth (A$85.50/A$129.50, admission included, live times at rottnestisland.com ), bike hire at the terminal, and a ride out past the settlement to the quieter western beaches. Full ferry, bike and history detail is in our 2-day plan .
Day 2: Fremantle

Day 3: Swan Valley
25 minutes northeast by car, WA’s oldest wine region since 1829. Pick 4-5 cellar doors from the 40-plus on offer (swanvalley.com.au has a cellar-door map), or book a half-day tour if drinking is the point of the day. Full detail in our 3-day plan .
Day 4: The Pinnacles Desert, the longest day trip that’s still a day trip
Drive or coach roughly 190km/2 hours north via Indian Ocean Drive, near the town of Cervantes, to Nambung National Park’s thousands of limestone pillars rising out of yellow desert sand. Full-day coach tours run roughly A$147-199 (~US$103-139) depending on whether a lobster lunch or a Yanchep National Park koala stop is bundled in; a self-drive gives you more control over timing but the same roughly 4-hour round-trip drive either way. Time it for sunset if you can, the low light is when the pillars actually look otherworldly rather than just odd. Pack water and sun protection, since the site has minimal shade and no on-site food beyond a small kiosk near the entrance.
Can the Pinnacles genuinely be done in a day?
Yes, comfortably, which isn’t true of Margaret River or Wave Rock later in this family. Budget the whole day either way, a 7am-6pm coach tour or a self-drive leaving the CBD by mid-morning, with roughly 4 hours of that day spent purely in the car.
Should you drive yourself or book a coach tour?
A tour if you’d rather not do an 8-hour round trip behind the wheel after 3 days of early starts; self-drive if you want to add Yanchep National Park or Lancelin’s sand dunes on your own schedule rather than a fixed itinerary.
