Perth 3 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)
Three days is our 2-day plan plus a full day on the Swan River and at Optus Stadium, still entirely inside the city itself. If the third day is really for Rottnest Island or Fremantle, our Perth Australia itinerary covers those instead; add more city days with our 4-day through 7-day versions.

Day 1: Kings Park, Elizabeth Quay, and getting your bearings
Take the Airport Line train, roughly 18 minutes to the CBD on the flat Go Anywhere Fare (A$3.50 cash, A$2.80 with an Autoload SmartRider), check into a CBD or Northbridge hotel, then walk Elizabeth Quay and ride the free CAT loop for an orientation lap. Spend the afternoon in Kings Park and Botanic Garden , 400 free hectares open 24 hours, timing the State War Memorial lookout for late afternoon light. Dinner in Northbridge.
Day 2: The WA Museum, the Cultural Centre, and Cottesloe Beach
Morning in the Perth Cultural Centre: WA Museum Boola Bardip (A$15 adult, A$10 concession, not free anymore since its promotion ended in March 2025), the Art Gallery of Western Australia, and PICA, all in one Northbridge block. Afternoon at Cottesloe Beach, Perth’s calmer, more classically photogenic first beach over the livelier Scarborough. Dinner back in Northbridge.
Is Cottesloe or Scarborough the better first beach? Cottesloe, for most visitors. It’s calmer, more classically photogenic, and easier swimming than the livelier, more built-up Scarborough; save Scarborough for a later trip if surf or kitesurfing is actually the priority.
Day 3: The river, the stadium, and Northbridge after dark
Morning on the Swan River foreshore, then the standard Transperth ferry from Elizabeth Quay to South Perth for the best skyline photo angle in the city, on regular transit fares rather than a dedicated cruise ticket. Cross to Burswood for Optus Stadium in the afternoon: the HALO rooftop climb (from A$85) or VERTIGO (from A$92) if the budget stretches, or just the exterior and the Ozone precinct if it doesn’t.
Do you need to book Optus Stadium tours ahead? Yes, for HALO and VERTIGO specifically. Both run fixed time slots that sell out on weekends and school holidays, and walking up on the day is unreliable; the stadium’s Behind-the-Scenes tour has more flexibility but still books out for popular AFL and cricket match days.
Evening back in Northbridge, this time for the small-bar scene that boomed after WA’s 2006-07 liquor licensing reform created a genuine laneway-bar culture. It’s a different Northbridge from the daytime cultural precinct, and worth seeing both sides on a three-day trip.
Before you go
Book your Optus Stadium tour before you land if you want a weekend slot; walk-up availability is genuinely unreliable. Carry water and sunscreen regardless of season, and remember tipping isn’t expected anywhere in Australia, rounding up is a nice gesture, never an obligation.
