Perth Day Trips 3 Day Itinerary

Day 1: Rottnest Island
Ferry over early (A$85.50 from Fremantle, A$129.50 from Perth, both including island admission, live times at rottnestisland.com ), hire a bike at the terminal, and ride straight past the settlement’s quokka crowds to Parakeet Bay or Salmon Bay. Day 2: Fremantle

Day 3: Swan Valley, the easy half-day wine win
Drive 25 minutes northeast of the CBD (no train option) into WA’s oldest wine region, vines planted since 1829. Pick 4-5 cellar doors out of the 40-plus along the roughly 32km trail (swanvalley.com.au has a current cellar-door map) rather than trying to cover all 200-plus stops on the wider food-and-wine trail; Sandalford and Houghton are the two largest estates with the most visitor infrastructure if you’d rather not plan a route yourself. A half-day tour from Perth runs from about A$74 (~US$52) adult and solves the obvious problem of driving after tasting. Break for lunch at one of the winery restaurants, then a chocolate or nougat stop on the way out. Back in Perth or Fremantle by early evening, no rush.
Do you need a tour, or can you drive yourself?
Drive yourself only if you’re not drinking, since public transport around Swan Valley is thin and most producers expect you to arrive by car. If tasting wine is the actual point of the day, book a half-day tour instead; it costs more than fuel but removes the only real risk in an otherwise low-effort day.
Is 3 days enough to add Swan Valley without rushing the first two?
Yes, comfortably. Rottnest and Fremantle are each full but self-contained days, and Swan Valley is a genuine half-day, done and back in Perth by early evening, with no overlap or rush against the first two.
