Perth 5 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)
Five days is our 4-day plan plus a second beach day and a deeper Kings Park visit, still entirely inside the city itself. For Rottnest Island or Margaret River instead, see our Perth Australia itinerary ; add more with our 6-day and 7-day versions.
Book these before you go:
- Your CBD or Northbridge hotel : rates climb fast around Fringe World in January and February
- An Optus Stadium tour : HALO and VERTIGO slots sell out on weekends
- A Swan River cruise : the standard Transperth ferry is cheaper if you just want the crossing
| Day | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1 | Kings Park, Elizabeth Quay, free CAT loop, Northbridge dinner |
| 2 | WA Museum, Perth Cultural Centre, Cottesloe Beach |
| 3 | Swan River foreshore, South Perth ferry, Optus Stadium, Northbridge nightlife |
| 4 | Subiaco, Leederville, and Mount Lawley inner suburbs |
| 5 | Scarborough Beach, Kings Park treetop walk and Botanic Garden |
Day 1: Kings Park, Elizabeth Quay, and getting your bearings
Airport Line train to the CBD on the flat Go Anywhere Fare , check in, Elizabeth Quay and the free CAT loop for orientation, then Kings Park and Botanic Garden in the afternoon, 400 free hectares open 24 hours. Dinner in Northbridge.
Day 2: The WA Museum, the Cultural Centre, and Cottesloe Beach
WA Museum Boola Bardip (A$15 adult, its free-entry promotion ended in March 2025), the Art Gallery of Western Australia, and PICA in the morning; Cottesloe Beach, calmer and more photogenic than Scarborough, in the afternoon.
Day 3: The river, the stadium, and Northbridge after dark
Swan River foreshore and the ferry to South Perth for the skyline view, then Optus Stadium, the HALO climb (from A$85) or VERTIGO (from A$92). Evening in Northbridge’s small-bar scene.
Day 4: Subiaco, Leederville, and Mount Lawley
A slower day in the inner suburbs: Subiaco next to Kings Park, Leederville’s Oxford Street cafes by Lake Monger’s black swans, and Mount Lawley’s Beaufort Street strip, moving between them by bus rather than driving.
Day 5: Scarborough Beach and Kings Park’s other half
Morning at Scarborough Beach, livelier and better for surf and kitesurfing than Cottesloe, with a redeveloped foreshore of bars and restaurants; a reasonable second beach once you’ve already given Cottesloe its due on day two.
Is Scarborough worth doing if you’ve already done Cottesloe? Yes, on a five-day trip. They’re different beaches for different moods, Cottesloe calmer and more classic, Scarborough livelier with better surf and kitesurfing, and five days is enough to justify both rather than forcing a single choice.
Is Kings Park worth visiting twice on one trip? Yes, if you have five-plus days. A first visit rarely covers the Lotterywest Federation Walkway treetop crossing or the full Western Australian Botanic Garden, 3,000-plus native species that peak during the September-to-November wildflower season, and both reward a dedicated return rather than a rushed add-on to day one.
Spend the late afternoon back in Kings Park for exactly that: the treetop walkway and the Botanic Garden’s native plant collection, free and open until whenever you’re ready to leave. Dinner wherever in the CBD or Northbridge felt best so far this week.
Before you go
Pack for both beach and bushland on day five, sunscreen either way. If you’re visiting September through November, check the Botanic Garden’s wildflower displays specifically; the timing shifts slightly year to year with the season.
