Perth 6 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)
Six days is our 5-day plan plus a wildlife-and-cycling day, still entirely inside the city itself. If day six is really meant for Rottnest Island, our Perth Australia itinerary covers that trip properly; add a final day with our 7-day version .
Book these before you go:
- Your CBD or Northbridge hotel : rates climb fast around Fringe World in January and February
- An Optus Stadium tour : HALO and VERTIGO slots sell out on weekends
- A Swan River cruise : the standard Transperth ferry is cheaper if you just want the crossing
| Day | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1 | Kings Park, Elizabeth Quay, free CAT loop, Northbridge dinner |
| 2 | WA Museum, Perth Cultural Centre, Cottesloe Beach |
| 3 | Swan River foreshore, South Perth ferry, Optus Stadium, Northbridge nightlife |
| 4 | Subiaco, Leederville, and Mount Lawley inner suburbs |
| 5 | Scarborough Beach, Kings Park treetop walk and Botanic Garden |
| 6 | Perth Zoo or a Swan River cycling loop, revisit a favorite meal |
Day 1: Kings Park, Elizabeth Quay, and getting your bearings
Airport Line train to the CBD on the flat Go Anywhere Fare , Elizabeth Quay and the free CAT loop for orientation, Kings Park in the afternoon, dinner in Northbridge.
Day 2: The WA Museum, the Cultural Centre, and Cottesloe Beach
WA Museum Boola Bardip (A$15 adult, not free since March 2025), the Perth Cultural Centre’s galleries, and Cottesloe Beach in the afternoon over the livelier Scarborough.
Day 3: The river, the stadium, and Northbridge after dark
Swan River foreshore, the ferry to South Perth, Optus Stadium (HALO from A$85, VERTIGO from A$92), and Northbridge’s small-bar scene at night.
Day 4: Subiaco, Leederville, and Mount Lawley
A slower day across Perth’s inner suburbs: Subiaco by Kings Park, Leederville’s cafe strip by Lake Monger, Mount Lawley’s Beaufort Street, by bus rather than car.
Day 5: Scarborough Beach and Kings Park’s other half
Scarborough for surf and kitesurfing in the morning, then back to Kings Park in the late afternoon for the Lotterywest Federation Walkway and the Botanic Garden’s native plant collection.
Day 6: Perth Zoo, the river loop, or both
Should you do both Perth Zoo and Rottnest Island? Not really. Perth Zoo, reachable by the same Elizabeth Quay-South Perth ferry as day three, quotes adult admission at either A$33 or A$39 depending which of its own channels you check. If Rottnest Island’s free-roaming quokkas are elsewhere on your wider trip, skip the zoo; you’re paying twice for a similar wildlife experience.
If you’re skipping the zoo, spend the morning on a full Swan River cycling loop instead, foreshore paths run both banks and connect into a genuine ride rather than a short walk. Either way, use the afternoon to revisit whichever meal, beach, or neighborhood was the best of the week; a rigid six-day trip that never repeats a favorite is optimizing for the wrong thing.
Is the Swan River cycling loop difficult? No. The foreshore paths on both banks are flat, sealed, and beginner-friendly; a full loop is an easy half-day at a relaxed pace, not a serious cycling challenge.
Before you go
Decide the zoo-or-cycling call before day six, not on the morning of, since it changes what shoes and sunscreen routine you need. And if a rental bike is part of the plan, book it the day before; Swan River foreshore hire spots run out on weekends.
