Premuzic Trail
The Premuzic Trail is 42.6 km from Zavizan to Baske Ostarije, held at about 1,500 m on gentle gradients. It was built from 1930 to 1933. A day walk can start at Zavizan and go as far as Rossijeva koliba and beyond before turning back. The park is usually open from early May to mid-November, depending on snow, and you should ask the park about trail conditions first.
Zavratnica Cove
An educational trail leads from Jablanac to Zavratnica Cove in Velebit Nature Park. Park entry is 5 euros per person. The park asks walkers to stay on existing trails, and the remains of the Siebel ferry lie at the start of the cove.
Senj historic core and Nehaj
In Senj, walk the old town streets and then climb to Nehaj Fortress, built in 1558. The museum runs the fortress, so check hours and ticket price with Gradski muzej Senj on +385 53 881 141.
Lun olive garden
The paths through the Lun olive garden on northern Pag pass about 1,500 wild olives across 24 hectares. Reach Pag on the Prizna to Zigljen ferry.
Safety on foot
- Keep to marked paths. The UK government lists unexploded mines in some remote areas, including parts of Plitvice, and advises against walking on uncultivated land.
- Bura winds can be violent on the Senj coast, so check the DHMZ forecast before a coastal walk.
