A Romantic Weekend in Lika-Senj County
Lika-Senj County is a quiet-scenery destination for couples, not a resort strip. The romance here comes from waterfalls, mountain trails and small coastal towns, so the plan below is slow and outdoors. Prices are in euros.
Where to stay near Plitvice
Hotel Jezero stands next to Plitvice Entrance 2, with the waterfalls close by, which means you can reach the lakes early or late in the day when the paths are calmer. Ask about current packages when you book.
Guests at Hotel Jezero can enter the park free on later days after the first-day ticket, which suits a two-night stay. Ask for the extension at reception.
Plitvice for two
Walk Programme B, a 4 km route of 3 to 4 hours that includes an electric-boat ride on the lake. The Veliki Slap waterfall drops 78 metres and is the highlight of the park. The ticket includes the boat and the panoramic train. Adult day tickets cost 10 euros from November to March, 23 euros in April, May and October, and 40 euros from June to September.
A rowing boat for up to 4 people can be hired on Lake Kozjak from the P1 dock for 15 euros per hour, from 10:00 to 15:00. Swimming is not allowed anywhere in the park, and everyone stays on the marked paths.
Zavratnica Cove
Zavratnica is a narrow bay inside Velebit Nature Park, reached on foot from Jablanac. Entry is 5 euros per person. The remains of the Siebel ferry lie at the very start of the cove. Keep to the existing trails, and note that no lifeguards are documented there, so treat it as a place to walk and look.
Senj waterfront and Nehaj hill
In Senj, walk the waterfront in the evening and then the old town. Nehaj Fortress, built in 1558, stands on the hill above the town. Hours and ticket price: check with the museum on +385 53 881 141.
Lun olive garden on Pag
In northern Pag, the Lun olive garden has about 1,500 wild olives across 24 hectares, and the paths make an easy shared walk. Reach Pag on the Prizna to Zigljen ferry, about 20 minutes. Bura winds can cancel sailings.
Zrće is for parties
Zrće Beach is 2.5 km from Novalja and is a party destination, with beach clubs and summer festivals. Couples who want quiet should skip it and pick the Lun olive garden instead.
