Onward to Valbona
The Qafë Morinë crossing links the Gjakova district with Bajram Curri in Albania, 21 km from the border on the Albanian side. Qafë Prush, through Has, is a second crossing on the Gjakova side. Shared taxis and minibuses run from Gjakova to Bajram Curri, so ask locally about departure times. Before crossing, check the status of the border point and your vehicle insurance, since some car-hire companies bar crossings. Green-card insurance is not valid in Kosovo, and local third-party cover is sold at the border.
Lake Koman Ferry
The ferry from Fierzë to Koman takes about 2.5 hours and runs roughly April to late October. It costs about 9 to 10 EUR per person, and timetables differ between operators, so check with the operator. The return from Shkodër to Gjakova is by road through Kukës and Prizren, a long day.
Pashtrik and the Accursed Mountains
Treks here pass through border terrain, so go with a guide. Landmines and unexploded ordnance remain a risk in remoter parts of Kosovo, and you should stay on marked trails.
Entry Rules
UK citizens need no visa for up to 90 days, and other nationalities should check. Gjakova is in south-west Kosovo, far from the north, where governments advise extra caution; check your government’s advice before you travel. If you plan to continue to Serbia afterwards, note that Serbia does not treat Kosovo crossing points as official, so entry needs a Serbian entry stamp from elsewhere, and Serbia has refused entry to people with Kosovo stamps.
