Attraction Tours from Sharm el-Sheikh
Travel advice, as of October 2026: The UK Foreign Office advises against all travel to North Sinai and against all but essential travel to the northern part of South Sinai away from the coast, and it calls the Red Sea resorts of southern Sinai generally low risk. It also says regional escalation risk is high and that the Taba crossing can close at short notice. The US State Department lists Egypt at Level 2 and says Do Not Travel for North and Middle Sinai; its page is the one to check for the current level. Tours to St Catherine, Colored Canyon and the desert leave the resort strip, so read the FCDO advice and the US travel advisory before booking.
Most sightseeing around Sharm el-Sheikh is done on organised tours with hotel pickup. The six below cover the sea, a famous wreck, the desert and a pilgrimage site. Operators quote in euros or US dollars, and the free entry stamp issued at Sharm airport covers the resort strip only. Ask your operator whether a tour needs the full visa, which costs 30 US dollars on arrival in cash.
Ras Mohammed boat tour
A boat tour of Ras Mohammed National Park takes about six hours with hotel pickup, lunch and snorkel stops, usually at Magic Lake and the reef walls. The park fee of roughly 5 to 8 US dollars per person is normally included in the price. The park is on UNESCO’s Tentative List but is not a World Heritage Site.
Tiran Strait reef trip
Full-day boats stop at two or three reefs among Jackson, Gordon and Woodhouse. Listings in 2026 start from about 26.50 euros for snorkelling and about 68 euros for a certified dive. Tiran and Sanafir belong to Saudi Arabia, so boats cannot land on the island and the trip is all about the reefs. Divers will see the wreck of the Lara on Jackson Reef and the Loullia on Gordon Reef.
SS Thistlegorm wreck day trip
The Thistlegorm was a British freighter sunk on 6 October 1941, and its holds still carry Bedford trucks, Norton and BSA motorcycles, Bren guns and two Stanier locomotives. The wreck lies at about 30 metres. The boat run takes three to four hours each way, or about 2.5 hours on a fast boat, so the day starts around 4 am and ends at 5 or 6 pm, usually with two dives. Certification rules vary by operator, and some ask for Advanced Open Water and 20 or more logged dives.
Mount Sinai and St Catherine overnight tour
This organised trip covers a drive of roughly 220 to 230 km, about three hours each way, and a pre-dawn climb with a licensed Bedouin guide, which is required for the summit. Listings run from about 30 to 120 US dollars depending on what is included, and a protected-area fee of about 6 to 10 dollars or euros appears on some. Treat it as a pilgrimage site and dress modestly. St Catherine’s Monastery keeps morning hours only and is closed on Sundays, so check the day before you choose a date.
Colored Canyon and Dahab jeep safari
Colored Canyon is near Nuweiba, around 190 to 210 km from Sharm and 2.5 to 3.5 hours each way by road. It is sold as an 8 to 12 hour jeep day, usually combined with Dahab or St Catherine. The walls rise to about 40 metres, and the canyon walk is a short guided scramble inside the tour.
Nabq 4x4 tour with camel ride
A Nabq tour takes about four hours and combines a 4x4 drive, a camel ride and dinner. Check whether the entrance fee is included in the price. Nabq Protected Area has the northernmost mangroves on the Red Sea.
Browse these tours on GetYourGuide or Viator . Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities page gives the monastery’s hours.
