Tsaghkadzor Ski, Chairlift and Zipline Guide
Tsaghkadzor is a mountain resort town at about 1,800 m on the eastern slope of the Teghenyats range, roughly 55 km north-northeast of Yerevan by road. Most visitors come for the ski area on Mount Teghenis in winter, and the same lifts carry walkers and sightseers in summer. Check gov.uk and travel.state.gov for current Armenia advice before you go. Prices below are in Armenian dram (AMD).
The ski area
The Tsaghkadzor Ropeway is a chain of five fixed-grip chairlifts plus two rope tows for beginners, seven lifts in all. It rises from about 1,966 m to 2,819 m, roughly 853 m of vertical. These are open chairs, not a gondola or cable car, and the ride to the top takes about 32 minutes. The operator publishes news and prices at ropeway.am .
Skiresort.com counts about 30 km of slopes: roughly half easy, half intermediate and about 2 km difficult. There are 16 trails and the longest run is about 5.8 km. The operator also offers private and group lessons for skiing and snowboarding.
Lift cards and rental
The operator’s winter price list shows these figures:
- Single ride: 3,000 AMD
- Plastic card (a deposit-type card): 2,000 AMD
- Card of 10 rides: 10,000 AMD
- One day: 12,000 AMD
- Three days: 30,000 AMD; five days: 50,000 AMD
- Children under 10, one day: 9,000 AMD (bring a passport)
Cards of three days or more are for consecutive days. Rental listed on the same site: skis 5,000 AMD, snowboard 7,000 AMD, goggles 2,000 AMD and a helmet 2,000 AMD.
Season and hours
The lifts run daily from 10:00 to 17:30. The season usually runs from mid-December to March, with the upper slopes sometimes skiable into April. The operator announces each opening on its site, and no date for the 2026-27 season had been published by the end of October 2026. The operator has advertised a night skating rink on a few January dates and a night slope that can be cancelled for weather, but there is no standing night-skiing schedule, so do not plan around one.
Summer on the chairlifts
The ropeway is listed as open all year on armenia.travel . Recent listings give about 3,000 AMD per ride for a summer trip, so confirm the fare at the ticket office and check that it is running before you go. The lifts can stop in high wind or storms. Views from the top reach Lake Sevan and, in clear weather, Mount Ararat.
Zipline, action park and engines
A zipline sits in the Action Park, in the city park on the hill near Kecharis, not at the lower ropeway station. Listings describe one three-stage route: a 480 m flight, a 150 m walk back up and a 700 m return flight. Expect about 10,000 AMD per person, and check hours, since one page gives daily 11:00 to 18:00. The park also lists a VR simulator, laser shooting, bicycle paths, trampolines and cafes.
ATV and buggy rides are sold in tour listings, and snowmobile rental and excursions are advertised by the ropeway operator in winter. No prices are published for either, so ask at the ticket office or your hotel. Ask your hotel as well about horse riding and bike hire, which guides name as summer options.
Safety on snow
Stay on marked runs. Off-piste snow can hold avalanche danger and hidden obstacles. Go beyond the resort boundary only with a qualified local guide and rescue gear, and ask the operator about conditions first. Mountain weather changes quickly, winter temperatures at the top are well below freezing, and a windproof layer is worth carrying in every season.
