Areni Tours: Wine Route and Guided Visits
What Is Offered
Guided visits in Areni centre on wine, the Areni-1 cave and the canyon above the village. Most are arranged directly with the operator, and a few come as shared day tours from Yerevan. Tastings are best done with a driver or tour transport, and operators that ask for notice usually want about 24 hours.
Hin Areni Cellar Tours
Hin Areni runs guided Wine Bank and cellar tours at two tasting rooms, one on the main highway in the village and one beside the Areni-1 cave. The Standard package costs 1,500 AMD and includes a Wine Bank tour and three wines. Premium is 3,500 AMD for three Reserve wines. VIP is 12,000 AMD and adds a winery and cellar tour and a cheese platter. Confirm whether prices are per person when you reserve. Reservations go through tours@hinareniwine.am or by phone Monday to Saturday.
The Vayots Dzor Wine Route
The Vayots Dzor Wine Route links six wineries: Momik, Hin Areni, Trinity Canyon, Old Bridge, Areni Wine Factory and Getnatoun. Old Bridge and Getnatoun are in Yeghegnadzor, the next town after Areni on the M2, and Trinity Canyon is in Aghavnadzor in between. Opening hours and tasting formats differ at each, so confirm with each winery. Old Bridge’s winery and restaurant are open daily from 12:00 to 21:30. Getnatoun was founded in 1999; ask it directly about visits.
Areni-1 Cave
The cave can be visited on a guided basis, arranged through local guides or the research foundation, and access is worth confirming before you set out. The cave sits about 2 km from the village. Its winemaking installation dates to about 4100 BC. The oldest-shoe find, from about 3600 to 3500 BC, is in the History Museum of Armenia in Yerevan. A cave museum is planned around the end of 2026; check before you go.
Heritage Walk With Tasting
A private listing offers a Heritage of Areni walking tour with wine tasting, lasting about 3 hours. It links the ArpaParnas Wine and Rest Valley, Areni Wine Factory and Stepanyans’ Gastro Yard. Resale prices vary widely between sites, so compare the operator’s own price with the resellers.
Arpa Protected Landscape
Ranger-led wildlife watching and off-road tours run in the Arpa Protected Landscape, where bezoar goats live on the canyon walls. A 2025 guide quoted about 25,000 AMD per car for an off-road tour and asked for 72 hours’ notice. The Arpa Environmental Foundation has a visitor centre in Yeghegnadzor.
Tours From Yerevan
Shared day tours combining Khor Virap, Areni and Noravank leave Yerevan on listings such as GetYourGuide and Hyur Service. Compare itineraries rather than prices, since tours differ on whether they include a tasting and how long they stay at each stop.
The Areni Wine Festival
The festival is a dated event rather than a tour. The 2026 edition took place on Saturday 3 October and is over. It is usually held on the first Saturday of October, and the 2027 date has not been announced, so check armenia.travel.
