Tsaghkadzor Chairlift and Museum Tours
Travel advice as of 31 October 2026: the UK FCDO advises against all travel within 5 km of Armenia’s eastern border with Azerbaijan and along the M16/H26 road between Ijevan and Noyemberyan, and the US lists Armenia at Level 2. Tsaghkadzor, Lake Sevan and Dilijan lie outside those areas. Read gov.uk and travel.state.gov before you go, avoid night driving on mountain roads and expect poor road surfaces in winter.
Tsaghkadzor has a short list of paid attractions, and two of them are worth planning around: the chairlift ride to the top of Mount Teghenis and the Orbeli Brothers House-Museum. Day tours from Yerevan add Kecharis, Lake Sevan and sometimes Dilijan.
The chairlift ride
The Tsaghkadzor Ropeway reaches 2,819 m on a chain of five fixed-grip chairlifts. The ride from the base at about 1,966 m takes around 32 minutes. The lifts run daily from 10:00 to 17:30, parking at the base is free, and the operator lists its fares and news on ropeway.am . A single ride is 3,000 AMD on the operator’s winter price list. For a summer sightseeing ride, recent listings give about 3,000 AMD, so confirm at the ticket office.
The chairs are open and carry two people, apart from the first lift, which is a four-seater. Take a windproof layer even in July, because the top is much colder than the town. In clear weather the view stretches east to Lake Sevan and south-southwest to Mount Ararat.
Orbeli Brothers House-Museum
The museum at Orbeli Brothers Street 12 is the house where the physiologist Levon (Leon) Orbeli was born, and it holds about 2,000 exhibits in a scientific section and a memorial hall. It honours three brothers: Levon, the orientalist Hovsep (Joseph), who directed the Hermitage, and Ruben, founder of Soviet underwater archaeology.

Day tours from Yerevan
Operators in Yerevan sell combined days that pair Tsaghkadzor with Kecharis Monastery and Lake Sevan with Sevanavank, often adding Dilijan and Haghartsin. One Yerevan operator, Hyur Service, lists the ropeway at 8 EUR per person and a group tour from 33 EUR per person for 7 to 8 hours. Treat those as starting prices and compare itineraries, since some trips spend more time driving than walking.
From the outside
The Olympic Sports Complex was built in 1967 as the Soviet training base for the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and renovated in 2007 and 2008. It works as a multi-sport training complex with its own hotel, and no public tours are listed, so view it from the street.
