A Four Day Klaipeda and Coast Itinerary
Klaipėda works well as a base for four days on the Lithuanian coast. The plan below uses the ferry and buses for the first three days, and a car for the fourth. Prices are 2026 figures in euros. Check opening hours before you commit, because several sights close or shorten their hours between October and March.
Day 1: Klaipėda and Kopgalis
Spend the morning at the Lithuanian Sea Museum, which is on the Curonian Spit. Take the Old Ferry from E. Galvanausko bul. 1 (EUR 1.70 round trip), then walk the 1.6 km to Smiltynės g. 3. The museum and aquarium cost EUR 10 from October to April and EUR 14 from May to September. In winter it opens only Friday to Sunday, so on other days spend the morning in the city instead.
Back on the mainland, visit the Castle Museum at Priešpilio g. 2 (EUR 6, or EUR 3 reduced), or buy the joint ticket for three History Museum of Lithuania Minor sites at EUR 9. Finish with a walk through the Old Town. For an evening meal, the Švyturys BHouse at Kūlių Vartų g. 7 is a brewery gastropub.
Day 2: Curonian Spit overnight
Take the Smiltynė to Nida bus, EUR 8.00 per person. It runs about every two hours, so check the Visit Neringa timetable before you set out. Stop first at the Hill of Witches in Juodkrantė, a free walk past about 80 wooden sculptures. Between mid-April and mid-October, the Nagliai Dead Dunes trail is a second stop. It costs EUR 5 for adults, by card, and the 2026 season ran 17 April to 18 October.
Nida is about 50 km from Smiltynė and is the last Lithuanian settlement on the spit. Lithuania borders Russia’s Kaliningrad region just south of it, so check your government’s travel advice before you go. In Nida, walk up the Parnidis Dune by the wooden stairs and keep to the marked paths. The Thomas Mann Memorial Museum costs about EUR 3. Stay the night in Nida or take an afternoon bus back to Klaipėda.
If you drive, the car ferry from Nemuno g. 8 costs EUR 23.20 return, and the Neringa fee is EUR 10 from 21 August to 19 June or EUR 50 from 20 June to 20 August.
Day 3: Dutchman’s Cap and Palanga
Head north along the coast. Dutchman’s Cap, a cliff of about 24 m in Seaside Regional Park, is roughly 2 km north of Giruliai and suits a cycle ride or a short drive. Continue to Palanga, about 25 km from Klaipėda, which a bus reaches in 25 to 35 minutes for about EUR 4. The Amber Museum there costs EUR 6 from 16 September to 14 May and EUR 8 from 15 May to 15 September. Closed Mondays.
Day 4: Cold War museum by car
The Plokštinė Cold War Museum is in Žemaitija National Park, in the Plungė district about 8 km from Plateliai. Adults pay about EUR 10, or about EUR 12 in July and August, and a car is the practical way to reach it. Plan the whole day.
Where to sleep
Klaipėda has the Michaelson Boutique Hotel at Žvejų g. 18A, set in an 18th-century warehouse beside the Danė. Hotels and apartments can be compared on Booking.com .
Going further
Liepāja, on the Latvian coast about 100 km north of Klaipėda, can extend the trip by a couple of days.
