Family Days Out in Paphos District
Paphos District suits families who like a beach in the morning and something to see in the afternoon. The summer sun is strong, with 35 to 40 degrees common in July and August, so plan outdoor stops for early or late in the day. Prices below are 2026 figures in euros.
Paphos Aphrodite Waterpark
The waterpark is on the coastal strip east of Kato Paphos harbour, and it is the biggest water attraction in this part of Cyprus. It has slides, a lazy river and a wave pool, so it works for a full day of splashing. Opening season and ticket prices change, so use the official website to check them. Pack sun hats and water shoes.
Pafos Zoo
Pafos Zoo is at Agios Georgios, Peyia, about 15 km north-west of the town. It is a wildlife park rather than a quick stop, so allow a half day and bring water. The zoo website has seasonal hours and prices.
Coral Bay
Coral Bay is about 12 km north-west of Kato Paphos, and route 615 runs there. It is a sheltered horseshoe of sand with a gently shelving entry, which makes it a good first beach for small children. The sea floor has rock shelves and sea grass, not coral, so snorkelling is for fish and rocks only. Watersports operators work from the central bay.
Museums and mosaics
The Archaeological Museum of the Pafos District at Griva Digeni Avenue 43 in Ktima is free and closed on Mondays. It is a cool stop on a hot afternoon.
At the Kato Paphos Archaeological Park, the mosaic floors are easy to follow, and ticket categories for children vary: reduced and free categories exist, so ask at the gate. The adult ticket is EUR 4.50. The site has open ground, little shade and uneven paths, so bring a hat. Winter hours run from 16 September to 15 April, 08:30 to 17:00.
Sweet treats in Geroskipou
Geroskipou makes Loukoumi Geroskipou, a rose, lemon or almond-flavoured Cypriot Turkish delight with EU Protected Geographical Indication status. Factory shops let you taste before you buy a box.
Places to skip with young children
- Tombs of the Kings: the rock-cut tombs have deep openings and steep steps, and the site is unshaded and unsuitable for pushchairs.
- Avakas Gorge: the nature trail is closed, with a chain and signs at the entrance. Flash floods, falling rock and landslides are the hazards.
- Petra tou Romiou: rough surf and pebbles make swimming unsafe. Look at the rock from the viewpoint.
- Lara beach after dark: the beach is closed at night in nesting season, and no one should touch nests or eggs.
- Peyia sea caves: cliff jumping is dangerous.
Getting around
A hire car makes most family outings easier, and in Cyprus you drive on the left. Route 615 links Kato Paphos with Coral Bay, and pafosbuses.com lists timetables.
