Ohrid Boat Excursions and Museum Visits
The main excursion from Ohrid is the lake boat to the southern shore, and guided walking and minibus tours of the town are sold widely. Entry fees are paid in Macedonian denars (MKD), at about 61.5 MKD to the euro, and tour sellers often quote in euros.
The lake boat to St Naum
The classic excursion leaves the main pier in Ohrid at about 10:00 and returns around 15:30 to 16:00. The crossing takes about 90 minutes each way. A round trip costs about EUR 10 on the large boats and about EUR 20 on the small ones. The boat is reported to stop at the Bay of Bones for 30 to 40 minutes, and the museum entry is not part of the boat fare. Read the trip details on Sailing Stone Travel .
The Bay of Bones museum
The Bay of Bones is a museum built on the water. It shows a reconstructed Bronze Age pile dwelling standing over the lake, and on the shore at Gradiste there is a Roman-period fortress and an indoor museum. The site is about 14 to 16 km south of Ohrid. Entry is about 100 to 150 MKD. Outside summer the opening hours run roughly from 09:00 to 16:00, and the museum is reported to close on Mondays from October to April, so check before you travel.
St Naum monastery
St Naum is a working monastery, so wear modest clothes, keep your voice down and ask before taking photographs inside. The church has frescoes and an iconostasis, and entry is about 100 MKD. Peacocks walk through the grounds. The monastery stands about 29 km south of Ohrid, about 1 km from the Albanian border, so bring your passport if you plan to cross.
Guided city tours
Guided walking tours and minibus tours of Ohrid are sold widely in the Old Town and online. Ask what the price includes, because entry to St Sophia and Samuel’s Fortress may be extra. The Icon Gallery in the Church of the Virgin Peribleptos has its own ticket and is reported closed on Mondays. Opening hours across the town are collected on Tourism Attractions .
Planning the day
A boat to St Naum fills most of a day, so pair it with an easy evening in town. If you would rather skip the crossing, a public bus to St Naum takes about an hour and runs only a few times a day.
