Romantic Weekends in Armenia
Travel advice: the UK FCDO advises against all travel within 5 km of Armenia’s eastern border with Azerbaijan and along the M16/H26 road between Ijevan and Noyemberyan; the US lists Armenia at Level 2 and tells travellers not to go to the Azerbaijan border region. The places in this guide lie outside those areas, but check gov.uk and travel.state.gov before you go and stay on main roads in Syunik and Tavush.
Armenia is a modest romantic destination: there is no resort coast and no long list of boutique hideaways to rank. What it does offer is a handful of quiet, atmospheric settings for a couple: a forested mountain town, a wine village, an evening wine street in Yerevan, a view from the Cascade and a cable car ride. This page lists only places that are confirmed to exist. Prices are in Armenian dram (AMD), with rough dollar figures at about 370 to 390 AMD to the dollar.
Dilijan
Dilijan is a forested town in Tavush province, cooler than Yerevan in summer and about 1.5 to 2 hours from the capital by road. Sharambeyan Street is a restored craft quarter of balconied houses with working workshops, and Haghartsin Monastery and Goshavank sit in the woods nearby. Walkers can follow the easy 6.5 km trail from Lake Parz to Goshavank, about 2.5 hours. Dilijan lies far from the Ijevan to Noyemberyan road named in the travel advice above. This guide does not rank guesthouses; compare current options on a site such as Booking.com for Dilijan .
Areni wine country
Areni is the centre of Armenian wine, about 2 hours from Yerevan by road. Hin Areni runs tasting rooms in the village and, since 2024, one beside Areni-1 Cave, and the Areni Wine Factory dates from 1994. Tasting prices differ by venue, so ask before you sit down. Areni-1 itself is an excavation of an ancient winemaking site, not a tasting room. If you are driving, skip the tasting or hire a driver for the day. Visit Hin Areni for the tasting rooms.
Wine evenings on Saryan Street
In Yerevan, Saryan Street is the easy place for an evening. In Vino at 6 Saryan Street lists over 1,000 labels, and Tapastan and the Voskevaz wine bar are on or near the same stretch. Hours and prices change, so check before you go.
The Cascade at sunset
The Cascade at 10 Tamanyan Street is free to enter, and its stairs and escalators lead to a view across the city toward Mount Ararat, which stands in Turkey, on clear days. Summer haze can hide the mountain. Winter sunsets come early and summer ones late, so check the closing time of the part you plan to use, since listings differ. See the Cafesjian Center page for current hours.
Wings of Tatev with a night in Goris
The Wings of Tatev is a scenic ride of about 12 minutes over 5,752 m. A return ticket costs 9,000 AMD (about $24) from March to November and 5,500 AMD from December to February. The cable car is closed on Mondays, and it can close for weather. Tatev is a long drive from Yerevan, about 4.5 to 5.5 hours each way, so a night in Goris turns it into a slower trip for two. Stay on the main road to Halidzor. See the official site .
Yerevan Wine Days
If you travel in early June, the festival fills Saryan, Tumanyan and Moskovyan streets; the 2026 edition ran from 5 to 7 June. No ticket price has been confirmed, so check the organisers’ announcements (news report ).
Planning a short trip for two
A simple shape is two nights in Yerevan, a day in Areni and a night in Dilijan. Ride-hailing apps such as GG Taxi and Yandex Go are cheap in the capital, and a driver for the day is a common way to see Areni. Tours can be compared on GetYourGuide .
