Family Activities in Yerevan, Armenia
Travel advice: the UK FCDO advises against all travel within 5 km of Armenia’s eastern border with Azerbaijan and along the M16/H26 road between Ijevan and Noyemberyan; the US lists Armenia at Level 2 and tells travellers not to go to the Azerbaijan border region. The places in this guide lie outside those areas, but check gov.uk and travel.state.gov before you go and stay on main roads in Syunik and Tavush.
Armenia has a short list of attractions built for children, and almost all of them are in Yerevan. This page covers the ones that are confirmed to be open, plus museums with child pricing and the cautions that matter with young children. Prices are in Armenian dram (AMD), with rough dollar figures at about 370 to 390 AMD to the dollar.
Yerevan Park
Yerevan Park is an amusement park at 31 Monte Melkonian Street. It is open daily: Monday to Friday from 14:00 to 22:00 and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 22:00, closing at 21:00 in April. Entry is listed at 14,000 AMD per person (about $37) on the city’s visitor site, so confirm the price and what it covers before you go. See the Visit Yerevan listing and the park’s own site .
Yerevan Zoo
Founded in 1940, Yerevan Zoo is the only zoo in Armenia, with about 300 species and 3,000 animals. A June 2026 listing gives weekday adult tickets at 800 AMD (600 AMD on Thursday), weekend adult tickets at 1,200 AMD and children up to 15 at 500 to 600 AMD. Opening hours differ between sources, so check before you set out. More detail is on Armenia Discovery .
Yerevan Water World and Aquatek
Water World opened in 2001 on Myasnikyan Avenue, and the indoor Aquatek section followed in 2008. The outdoor park runs in summer only. No ticket price has been confirmed, so check at the entrance or with your hotel.
The Cascade sculpture garden
The sculpture garden at the Cascade, on Tamanyan Street, is an outdoor space and free to enter. Some listings give daily hours of 08:00 to 20:00, so confirm on the day. Adults can climb the Cascade’s steps or ride the escalators inside the building for a view over the city.
Wings of Tatev with children
Children up to 140 cm tall pay 1,000 AMD on the Wings of Tatev cable car, against 6,500 AMD one way for adults from March to November. The ride takes about 12 minutes. The cable car is closed on Mondays and may close for weather. Tatev is a long drive south, about 4.5 to 5.5 hours each way from Yerevan, so a night in Goris makes the trip easier with children. See the official prices .
Museums with child pricing
Two museums publish child fares. The Matenadaran manuscript museum charges 1,000 AMD for ages 6 to 18 and nothing for under-6s; it is closed on Sunday and Monday. The Parajanov Museum is free for children under 12 and open daily from 10:30 to 18:00. Prices are on the Matenadaran and Parajanov pages.
Cautions for families
- Khor Virap’s pit is reached by a steep ladder, so keep young children out of it.
- Lake Sevan sits at about 1,900 m, the water is cool to cold even in August and the wind can rise suddenly. Stay close to children at the shore, and keep any swim to July or August.
- The Yerevan Children’s Railway has not operated since July 2024, so leave it off your plan.
- Yerevan summers are hot, so use mornings and evenings for outdoor sites.
Getting around with children
The Yerevan metro has one line with 10 stations and a single ride costs 150 AMD; pay by contactless bank card or phone wallet. Ride-hailing apps such as GG Taxi and Yandex Go are the simplest way to cover the gaps; an airport transfer into the centre runs about 2,500 to 4,000 AMD.
