Romantic Paphos District for Couples
Aphrodite is said to have come ashore on this coast, and the district plays on the legend with sea views, sunsets and slow dinners. This page collects the places that suit two people. Prices are 2026 figures in euros.
Sunset at Petra tou Romiou
Aphrodite’s Rock sits on the south-east coast between Kouklia and the Limassol border. Come near dusk for the light on the sea stack, the pebble beach and the legend of the goddess. Treat it as a viewpoint only. Drownings have been reported here, no lifeguard service should be assumed, and swimming is not advised.
A cruise from Latchi
Boat cruises from Latchi harbour, about 40 km north of Paphos, run to the Blue Lagoon in roughly 2.5 to 3 hours. Fares start from about EUR 20 per adult, and Nafsika II is a listed cruise boat. A boat is the safe way to see this stretch of the Akamas coast, because the dirt track to the lagoon is unpaved, steep and exposed.
Wine in Kathikas
Drive up to the stone village of Kathikas, in the hills above the coast, and visit Vasilikon Winery for Xynisteri white or Maratheftiko red. Call ahead for tasting hours. The second official wine route, around Pano Panayia, includes Vouni Panayia Winery, in higher country about 35 km north-east of Paphos.
Evenings at the harbour
Kato Paphos harbour is lit after dark and has seafood restaurants along the quay. A walk from the harbour to Paphos Castle (EUR 2.50 to go inside, see the Department of Antiquities ) makes an easy after-dinner stroll. In Ktima, the old upper town, the lanes around Ibrahim’s Khan are quieter.
A coastal sunset near Peyia
The coast near Peyia has sea caves, and the cliffs here face west, which gives good sunsets. Bars and restaurants on this stretch look out over the sea. Stay on the paths and well back from the edge: cliff jumping is dangerous, and the Edro III wreck should only be viewed from the shore.
Where to stay
Seafront hotels in Kato Paphos include the Elysium on Tombs of the Kings Avenue and the Annabelle and the Almyra on Poseidonos Avenue. All three are close to the harbour. Compare rates and dates on Booking.com.
Aphrodite Festival
The Pafos Aphrodite Festival stages opera at Castle Square in early September. The 24th edition ran on 4 and 5 September 2026 with L’Elisir d’Amore, and tickets ranged from about EUR 35 to 150. The 2024 and 2025 editions staged La Traviata and Carmen. The 2027 programme has not been announced, so look at visitcyprus.com for news.
What to skip
The Tombs of the Kings are a burial site and make a poor romantic stop. Avakas Gorge is closed to visitors. Lara beach is protected turtle-nesting ground: it has no umbrellas or sunbeds from early June to the end of September, and the beach is off limits at night in nesting season.
