Romantic Málaga for Couples
Romantic Málaga for Couples
Málaga gives couples a hilltop castle, old baths, rooftop terraces and a sea promenade, all within a short walk or bus ride of one another. The ideas below can be strung into a long weekend or picked one at a time. Hours and prices are the ones published for 2026 where available, and the rest are marked as approximate.
Golden hour at Gibralfaro
The castle terrace has the best view over the port, the bullring and the sea. Plan it for the summer timetable, when the site is open until 20:00 with last entry at 19:00. In winter the castle closes at 18:00, so a sunset visit does not work from November to March. A single ticket is EUR 7 and the combined Alcazaba and Gibralfaro ticket is EUR 10. The climb is steep, so take EMT bus 35 up and walk down, or the other way round. Check the official price list and hours .
Arab baths
Hammam Al Ándalus is at Plaza de los Mártires 5, near the cathedral. It offers Arab baths with hot, warm and cold pools. Prices vary by package, so look at the venue’s own booking page before you choose a time.
A rooftop evening
The terrace of the AC Hotel Málaga Palacio (Cortina del Muelle 1, 15th floor) looks over the cathedral, the port and the sea. It opens from about 12:30 until midnight, later at weekends, so check the hours before you go. Go before sunset to see the light change over the harbour.
Sunset by sea
Catamaran cruises leave from Muelle Uno, and sunset sails start from about EUR 25. Book a day ahead in summer, and treat any promise of dolphins as a bonus rather than a certainty.
Dinner and a stroll
Take the bus or the promenade to Pedregalejo at dusk for espetos, sardines grilled on a cane skewer over wood in a sand-filled boat. Guides quote about EUR 15 to 30 per person for a meal. Afterwards walk the beach promenade back towards La Malagueta. Back in the centre, Antigua Casa de Guardia at Alameda Principal 18 has been trading since 1840 and is the place for a sweet-wine tasting beside a wall of barrels. Check its opening hours before you plan a late night.
A garden walk
The Jardín Botánico-Histórico La Concepción has a wisteria pavilion and shaded paths. It is closed on Mondays, entry is EUR 5.20, and it is free on Sunday afternoons. Reach it by EMT bus 20 to the last stop and a walk of about 15 minutes. See the garden’s visiting page .
Tips for couples
- In summer, book the cruise and the rooftop table a day or two ahead.
- Keep bags zipped and phones out of sight around the port and Calle Larios, where pickpockets work.
- Cover up away from the beach, as city rules prohibit walking around naked or in underwear.
