Multi-Day Trips from a Málaga Base
Multi-Day Trips from a Málaga Base
Málaga works well as a hub for trips of three to seven days. The airport is about 8 km from the centre, the María Zambrano station has high-speed and regional trains, and the main sights of western Andalusia sit within two to three hours. This page sets out workable plans and the bookings to make first.
A 3 to 4 night city base
Stay in the centre or near the port and give each day trip its own day: one for the Caminito del Rey, one for Granada, and one for Nerja or Antequera. The two bookings that run out of space are the Alhambra and the Caminito del Rey, so reserve their slots before you book hotels or transport. Keep the first half-day for the city itself, with the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro (EUR 10 combined, free on Sundays from 14:00) and the Museo Picasso Málaga (EUR 13). Travel details for each trip are on the day trips page .
Granada overnight
Sleeping in Granada lets you take the Nasrid Palaces night visit, which runs on Fridays and Saturdays in winter from 20:00 to 21:30 (EUR 12.73) and from Tuesday to Saturday in summer. You then keep the next morning for the Albaicín district. Coaches take about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. The Alhambra’s day ticket is about EUR 22 online, and its Nasrid Palaces entry is a fixed half-hour slot, so check times on the Patronato’s price and hours page .
Ronda overnight
Ronda is about 100 km from Málaga. Coaches take roughly 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes and there is no direct train, so an overnight stay saves a long day on the road. It also gives you the gorge and the Puente Nuevo outside day-tripper hours.
Granada, Córdoba and Seville by rail and coach
A loop through the three cities works from a Málaga base. Córdoba is about an hour from Málaga by high-speed train, and Seville is about two hours with a change. High-speed services on the Madrid line were disrupted after a collision in late October 2026, so check Renfe and Adif before you book trains.
Costa del Sol by C1 train
The C1 suburban line runs along the coast through Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola, which makes beach days easy without a car. Bioparc Fuengirola is the family stop there, about 46 minutes by train plus a 600 m walk from Málaga.
Event-led stays
- Semana Santa 2027 runs from Palm Sunday on 21 March to Easter Sunday on 28 March, with the Legion landing and the Cristo de Mena procession on Holy Thursday. The 2027 programme is not yet published.
- Feria de Málaga takes place in mid-August, and 19 August 2027 is a local public holiday. The exact 2027 dates are not announced.
Book accommodation early for both,.
Tips
- A car helps mainly for El Torcal, which has no public transport to its visitor centre; otherwise take a taxi from Antequera or join a tour.
- Plan Caminito del Rey and Alhambra slots first, then match hotels and trains to them.
