Seville Sightseeing Beyond the Big Three
The Archivo General de Indias is free every day of the year, and it holds original documents of the Spanish Empire, including Columbus’s journals and maps of the Americas. Most visitors walk past it on the way to bigger queues.
The World Heritage trio
The Alcázar (about €15.50, reduced €8), the Cathedral and Giralda (€13 online) and the Archivo form Seville’s UNESCO group. Columbus’s tomb sits inside the Cathedral. Book the first two on alcazarsevilla.org and catedraldesevilla.es . The Archivo needs only a bag check.
Noble palaces
Casa de Pilatos has Renaissance and Mudéjar halls lined with tiles: €12 for the ground floor and €18 for the full palace. Palacio de las Dueñas, former home of the Dukes of Alba and birthplace of the poet Antonio Machado, costs about €12 to €13. Palacio de la Condesa de Lebrija is known for Roman mosaics from Itálica. See fundacionmedinaceli.org and lasduenas.es for current rates.
River landmarks
The Torre del Oro is a 13th-century Almohad watchtower on the bank. It houses a small naval museum, with a modest fee or donation. The Real Maestranza bullring, a few minutes upriver, has guided visits of the arena and museum. Nearby the Hospital de la Caridad is a Baroque charity hospital and church with paintings by Valdés Leal and Murillo.
Plazas
Plaza del Triunfo and Plaza Virgen de los Reyes sit beside the Cathedral. Plaza del Cabildo hosts a numismatic market on Sundays. Plaza de la Encarnación has the Setas, where tickets start from €16. Plaza de España is free, and the city has discussed a charge for non-residents but none applies.
Making the most of a ticket
Many visits work best with a guide who explains the layers of Moorish and Christian building. To compare, look at guided sightseeing tours and check what the ticket includes. The Alcázar’s general ticket also covers its linked municipal museums, so ask at the desk.
Dress and conduct
Cover shoulders and knees for the Cathedral. Watch for people offering rosemary sprigs near the Cathedral, who will ask for €5 to €20 once you take one.
Pairing with the weather
Summer alerts above 40C are common. Put outdoor sights before noon and palaces, galleries and the Cathedral roof at midday.
For routes between these stops, see the walking tours page and the two-day itinerary . Tip: visit the Archivo at midday when queues elsewhere are longest.
