Romantic Escapes in St. Moritz
Romance in St. Moritz comes from altitude, snow and slow evenings rather than from any single attraction. The ideas below are the ones that suit two people, with the season each one works in. Prices are in Swiss francs (CHF).
A night at Muottas Muragl
The Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl sits at 2,456 m at the top of a funicular that opened in 1907. The hotel has 16 rooms and suites. In season the funicular runs until 23:00, which means you can dine at the top and ride down afterwards, or stay the night and wake above the valley. A funicular return costs CHF 42.50 in summer 2026. Booking and room details are on muottasmuragl.ch .
Horse-drawn sleigh into Val Fex
In winter a horse-drawn sleigh goes into Val Fex from Sils Maria. It is a quiet way to see the valley in snow. Ask the operator for current prices and times when you plan the trip.
Coffee and Nusstorte
Café Hanselmann is known for Engadiner Nusstorte, the regional nut tart, and is a good stop for an afternoon pause. Opening times and prices are on hanselmann.ch .
The lake on foot
The path around Lake St. Moritz takes about an hour and is free. In winter the frozen lake hosts events: the Snow Polo World Cup on 22 to 24 January 2027 and White Turf racing on 7, 14 and 21 February 2027. Stay on marked routes and follow any closures on the ice.
Scenic train rides
The Bernina line to Tirano in Italy takes about 2 h 15 min to 2 h 30 min each way. A panoramic seat reservation costs about CHF 32 each way, and you need a passport or ID card for Italy. In summer the Lake Sils boat from Sils Maria to Maloja takes about 40 minutes.
Museums for a rainy afternoon
The Segantini Museum shows the work of Giovanni Segantini, an Italian painter, in a purpose-built building from 1908. It reopens on 10 December 2026 and is closed on Mondays, with adult tickets at CHF 15. The Museum Engiadinais reopens on 6 December 2026.
A thrill for two
The Olympia Bob Run offers guest bobsleigh rides from 22 December 2026 at CHF 269 per person. Riders must be 16 or older, and guests aged 70 and over need a medical confirmation. The Cresta Run is for solo riders only, so it is not a shared ride.
When to go
Winter gives snow, sleigh rides and floodlit evenings. Summer gives long light, lifts and lake walks. Between the end of October and late November, many venues are closed.
