Mountain Lifts and Peaks Around St. Moritz
The main sightseeing outings around St. Moritz are rides up the mountain. Four lift systems carry visitors to viewpoints between about 2,450 m and 3,300 m, each with its own season, fare and character. Prices below are adult returns in Swiss francs (CHF) and change from year to year, so confirm them on the operator site before you go.
Corviglia and Piz Nair
The Corviglia funicular climbs from St. Moritz Dorf and links to the lifts to Piz Nair, whose summit is at about 3,056 m. The restaurant at the top is listed at about 3,057 m. The Chantarella to Corviglia and St. Moritz Dorf funiculars had a major overhaul in summer 2026, so check mountains.ch for the winter reopening date before you build a day around a funicular ride. Corviglia opens early on 27 November 2026 for season-pass holders.
Muottas Muragl
The funicular to Muottas Muragl opened in 1907 and takes you to 2,456 m, with a terrace and the hotel at the top. A summer 2026 return ticket costs CHF 42.50. In season the funicular runs until 23:00, which makes it a workable choice for an evening meal with a view. The hotel has 16 rooms and suites. In winter the same funicular is the way to the public toboggan run. Details are on muottasmuragl.ch .
Corvatsch
Corvatsch tops out at 3,303 m, the highest of the four. A summer 2026 return costs CHF 64. The Surlej to Murtel section alone is CHF 46, and the Furtschellas lift is CHF 39. In winter the same lifts serve the ski area and the Friday Snow Night piste.
Diavolezza
The Diavolezza cable car runs to a terrace at 2,978 m with the Berghaus beside it. A summer 2026 return is CHF 46. The lift runs daily until 15 November 2026, then closes until the winter season, which usually starts around 19 December. Plan a visit before the mid-November closing or wait for winter.
Ticket rules and offers
The mountains.ch lifts do not take the GA, Half Fare or Reka cards, and the Swiss Travel Pass does not cover Engadin cable cars. The Mountain Railways Included offer let guests of 100 or more partner hotels and holiday flats ride 13 lifts from the second night. It ran from 1 May to 31 October 2026. It does not cover winter ski slopes, and dates for 2027 have not been announced. Whether it includes local buses or the Rhaetian Railway depends on the hotel, so ask your host.
Choosing between them
For a first-time visit in summer, Corvatsch gives the highest viewpoint and Muottas Muragl gives the easiest evening. Diavolezza costs CHF 18 less than Corvatsch and is a good second choice. Pick a clear morning, because high terraces earn their fare only when the peaks are out. Dress for cold at any time of year: the temperature at 3,000 m is well below the valley.
