Leipzig With Kids
Leipzig with kids
Leipzig has enough indoor and outdoor options for a family trip of two or three days. The list below sticks to places with children’s programmes or easy access, plus the tickets that save money.
Zoo Leipzig and Gondwanaland
The zoo at Pfaffendorfer Straße 29 is the city’s biggest family draw. It is open every day of the year, from 09:00 to 18:00 in the season with an earlier winter closing time. Gondwanaland is the tropical hall with a boat ride and a treetop walk, and Pongoland is home to the apes. A child ticket (ages 6 to 16) costs about EUR 15 to 17, and a family ticket about EUR 60 to 70. Adults pay roughly EUR 23 to 26. Prices change and a new sea-lion and penguin area is being introduced in 2026, so check the site first: zoo-leipzig.de . The zoo lets children in free on Kindertag, Halloween and Nikolaustag.
Panometer ANTARKTIS
The Panometer at Richard-Lehmann-Straße 114 shows a 360-degree panorama of Antarctica. It suits school-age children. It is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:00. Check the price on panometer.de .
Unikatum Kinder- und Jugendmuseum
The Unikatum at Zschochersche Straße 26 in Plagwitz is a children’s and youth museum. Opening hours vary, so confirm them before you make the trip.
Zeitgeschichtliches Forum
The Zeitgeschichtliches Forum at Grimmaische Straße 6 has free entry and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00. Older children can combine it with a walk through the centre.
Belantis
Belantis is a theme park at Zwenkau, south of the city. Check the park’s season and opening days before planning a day there.
Lakes with children
The Cospudener See and the Kulkwitzer See are the city’s declared bathing waters. The north beach of the Cospudener See has no lifeguard, and the city says a rescue station will not be built there before 2030. Lifeguards from the DLRG are reported in season at the Markkleeberger, Kulkwitzer and Schladitzer lakes. Children need an adult within arm’s reach at any lake, so choose a guarded beach, swim in summer only and check the city’s bathing-water page for algae warnings. Do not let children play in the canals or the Weiße Elster.
Family tickets for transport
A three-day Leipzig Card for a group of two adults and up to three children costs EUR 49.90. It covers tram, bus and S-Bahn in Zone 110 and gives discounts at attractions, not free entry. See the 2026 Leipzig Card flyer . To compare tours, try Leipzig family tours on Viator .
