Leipzig Museums and Attractions Guide
Museums and attractions in Leipzig
Leipzig packs several indoor attractions into a small centre. This page lists the ones with a visit format, an address and an opening pattern, so you can fit them around the weather.
Bach-Museum
The Bach-Museum is at Thomaskirchhof 15/16, opposite the Thomaskirche. It is open Tuesday to Sunday and on public holidays from 10:00 to 18:00, and closed on Mondays and on 24, 25 and 31 December. An adult ticket costs EUR 14 and a reduced ticket EUR 9. Under-18s go in free, and so does everyone on the first Tuesday of the month. The museum’s own site lists special exhibitions and free-entry days: bachmuseumleipzig.de .
Auerbachs Keller
Auerbachs Keller in the Mädlerpassage (Grimmaische Straße 2 to 4) dates from 1525, so 2026 is its 500th year. It combines a restaurant with the Mephisto Bar, and a bronze Faust group stands at the passage entrance. The Großer Keller is open Monday, Thursday and Sunday from 12:00 to 22:00, Tuesday and Wednesday from 17:00 to 22:00, and Friday and Saturday from 12:00 to 23:00. It is closed on 23 and 24 December 2026. Reservations and the menu are on auerbachs-keller-leipzig.de .
Völkerschlachtdenkmal and its exhibition
The monument commemorates the 1813 Battle of Nations and stands in Probstheida, about 4 km south-east of the centre. Guided tours are booked through the Stiftung by phone on +49 341 2416 870. A new permanent exhibition in the base area opened in August 2026 and needs no booking. Entry is about EUR 12 for adults and EUR 10 reduced, with children free. Hours are 10:00 to 18:00 from April to October and 10:00 to 16:00 from November to March. The lift in the FORUM 1813 museum was out of service in late October 2026. The foundation’s site has the latest notices: stiftung-voelkerschlachtdenkmal-leipzig.de .
Museum in der Runden Ecke
This museum at Dittrichring 24 occupies the former Stasi district office. It is a memorial and documentation centre run by the Bürgerkomitee Leipzig, and the exhibition is called “Stasi - Macht und Banalität”. Admission is EUR 5, or EUR 4 reduced, and includes an audio guide. The guided tour “Stasi intern” costs EUR 7.50, or EUR 6 reduced. The site is listed as open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, but a notice gives temporary hours of 11:00 to 16:00, so check before you go: runde-ecke-leipzig.de . A separate Stasi-Bunker museum near Machern opens only on the last weekend of each month.
Zeitgeschichtliches Forum and Spinnerei
The Zeitgeschichtliches Forum at Grimmaische Straße 6 has free entry and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00. It is closed on Mondays. Information is at hdg.de . The Spinnerei offers guided tours on request; ask the organisers for dates and prices.
