Kingston Attractions: Museums and Studios
Travel advice, October 2026: Jamaica has high rates of violent crime, concentrated in inner-city neighbourhoods, and both the UK FCDO and the US State Department name areas to avoid, including parts of Kingston. Use licensed or hotel-arranged transport, avoid walking after dark, and read gov.uk and travel.state.gov before you go.
Most of Kingston’s attractions are visited on a guided or timed ticket. This page lists them with the published prices and hours, so you can plan the day around the opening times and book ahead where booking is possible. Prices are in US dollars unless marked J$.
Bob Marley Museum
The home tour at 56 Hope Road is compulsory and guided, so you cannot wander the house alone. Tours leave hourly from 10:00 to 16:00, Monday to Saturday, and the museum is closed on Sundays and some public holidays. Adults aged 13 and over pay US$25, children from 4 to 12 pay US$12, and children under four are free. Allow about 75 minutes, including a 20-minute video in the former studio. Book online in advance in the winter season.
Tuff Gong studio tour
The Tuff Gong studio at 220 Marcus Garvey Drive offers the “Making of the Music” tour, which lasts 45 to 60 minutes and includes the vinyl pressing process. Tours run every half hour from 9:30 to 16:00, Monday to Saturday. The price is US$20 for adults and US$12 for children. A combination ticket for both sites costs US$40 for adults and US$24 for children, which saves adults only US$5, and it does not include transport between the two. The sites are in different parts of the city, so arrange a taxi or driver between them.
Kingston Creative mural tours
Kingston Creative runs guided walks through the 108 or more murals around Water Lane in Downtown Kingston, starting at its hub at 107 Harbour Street. A one-hour mural walk with augmented-reality stops, a music tour and a hop-on hop-off bus are all available. No price is published, so ask when you book through Kulcha Connect, tours@kingstoncreative.org or +1 876-840-1287. The free Artwalk festival happens on the last Sunday of each quarter.
Port Royal heritage tours
A guided Port Royal package from a New Kingston hotel typically costs about US$50 to US$75, with transport and entry fees included. The route covers Fort Charles, the Giddy House, St. Peter’s Anglican Church (1725) and the Old Naval Hospital. If you drive yourself, Fort Charles is run by the Port Authority of Jamaica and is open daily from about 9:00 to 17:00, closed Good Friday and Christmas Day. Adults pay about US$15 to US$18, and the price is reported differently by different sources, so check at the gate.
Trench Town Culture Yard
The Culture Yard at 6 and 8 Lower First Street is a government yard where Bob Marley lived in the 1960s and the Wailers formed. Visits are guided by community residents, by arrangement, and in daylight only. Do not walk into Trench Town on your own. The yard visit is US$20, the yard plus Bob Marley’s mother’s house is US$30, and the full neighbourhood tour is US$40. Telephone +1 876-837-0359 to arrange a visit, as opening hours are not published.
Booking tip
City tours sold on marketplace sites can run from about US$150 to US$250 per person for a private vehicle, while the entry fees for the main sights add up to well under US$50. Book the museum tickets directly and pay only for the transport you need.
