Klaipeda Old Town and Castle Sightseeing
Klaipėda was known as Memel until 1923 and again from 1939 to 1945, and the old street grid, red-brick warehouses and half-timbered houses still show it. The centre is compact and flat. Prices are 2026 figures in euros.
Klaipėda Castle and the Castle Museum The Teutonic Order founded Memelburg Castle here in 1252, at the mouth of the Danė. The masonry above ground was taken down long ago, but the earthwork bastions and brick passages survive.

Romantic Weekend in Klaipeda
Klaipėda’s romance is quiet and maritime. It comes from harbour light, brick courtyards, a ferry ride at dusk and a pine forest across the strait. Two days are enough. Prices are in euros.
Sunset at the Northern Pier The Northern Pier at Melnragė is the city’s best sunset spot. A long breakwater runs out into the Baltic, and from its end you can watch ferries and cargo ships slide through the harbour entrance as the sun goes down.

Things to Do in Klaipeda, Lithuania
Klaipėda is Lithuania’s only ice-free seaport, set where the Curonian Lagoon meets the Baltic Sea. The Danė River runs through the middle of town, and across the narrow Klaipėda Strait lies the northern tip of the Curonian Spit. Most of what there is to do here is about water, ships, bikes and short museum visits. The currency is the euro.
Cross the strait by ferry There is no bridge to Smiltynė, so the ferry is the only way over.
