Yerevan With Kids: Park, Zoo and Cascade
Yerevan has only a short list of attractions built for children, and most of them are modest in size. Between them they fill two or three easy days, and the free Cascade steps and fountains fill the gaps. Check gov.uk and travel.state.gov for current Armenia advice before you go.
Yerevan Park
Yerevan Park is an amusement park at 31 Monte Melkonian Street. It opens Monday to Friday 14:00 to 22:00 and Saturday and Sunday 12:00 to 22:00, and it closes an hour earlier in April. Entry is 14,000 AMD per person, or 12,000 AMD in April. Because the afternoon opening time suits a late start, it works well after a morning at the zoo. Details are on the Visit Yerevan page .
Yerevan Zoo
The zoo is on Myasnikyan Avenue and is open daily from 09:00 to 20:30, with a later start of 11:00 on Mondays. It was founded in 1940 and holds about 300 species and 3,000 animals. Weekday tickets for visitors aged 16 and over cost about 800 AMD, Thursdays about 600 AMD and weekends about 1,200 AMD. Children up to 15 pay about 500 AMD, about 200 AMD on Thursdays and about 600 AMD at weekends. Entry is free for children under 3 and for visitors over 70. Prices and hours can change, so check the zoo site before you go.
Water World and Aquatek
Yerevan Water World and the indoor Aquatek pool complex are both on Myasnikyan Avenue. The outdoor park runs in summer only, and published hours vary, so call or check the day before you go. Ticket prices change with the season, so ask at the gate before you queue.
The Cascade steps and sculpture garden
The Cascade is a free outdoor space that children can run around. The sculpture garden at the base holds works by several artists, including a large cat by Botero. The staircase has about 570 steps, and the escalators inside usually run daily from 08:00 to 20:00, which saves small legs. The galleries of the Cafesjian Center are open only Friday to Sunday 10:00 to 20:00.
Republic Square fountains
In the warm season, from about April or May to September or October, the fountains on Republic Square put on an evening show. It starts at about 21:00 and is free, so it suits older children and late dinners.
Practical tips
- Summer heat often reaches 35 to 40 C from late June to August. Plan indoor time between 12:00 and 16:00, and refill bottles at the pulpulaks, the public drinking fountains.
- The metro and buses take contactless bank cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, QR tickets or the transport card, since cash ended on 1 February 2025. A single ride is about 150 AMD.
- Use GG Taxi or Yandex Go for cars, and check the fare in the app before you set off.
- The metro is a single line with 10 stations, so there are no changes to manage with children.
