Romantic Nights on Nusa Lembongan
A Slow Island for Two
Nusa Lembongan works for couples who want sunsets, a pool and an easy dinner more than a packed itinerary. The island is small and low, with beach clubs on the west and south coasts, quiet restaurants along the Jungut Batu beachfront and a handful of small resorts. Many hotels, dive shops and shops add a 3 to 5 percent card surcharge, and there are ATMs near Mushroom Bay and Jungut Batu.
Sunset and Drinks
Sandy Bay Beach Club has a beachfront pool and an open view to the west, so the sun drops straight into the ocean. It opens daily from about 07:00 to 23:00 and also offers rooms. Entry carries no minimum spend.
The Deck Cafe and Bar is a boardwalk bar above Jungut Batu beach, open from 07:30 to 22:00, with happy hour between 17:00 and 18:30. It is cashless. The view runs north toward Mount Agung, so come for the outlook across the water, but not for a sunset behind the volcano.
The Pontoon by Lago is a floating platform off Coconut Beach with a minimum spend of about IDR 200,000 and a free boat transfer. It stays open until roughly 19:00. Ohana’s Beach Club at Jungutbatu has daybeds with a small minimum spend.
Dinner
Ginger and Jamu sits on the Jungutbatu beachfront and serves mostly vegan and vegetarian dishes from about 07:30 to 22:00. Muntigs is a resort restaurant with an international menu.
Where to Stay
The Tamarind Resort has 12 rooms and three three-bedroom villas, with rates from about AU$440 a night. Sandy Bay Beach Club also offers rooms. Rates move with the season, so check before you book.
A Private Boat
A private snorkel or sunset boat charter costs about IDR 1,200,000 to 3,000,000 for the whole boat. Ask for lifejackets for both of you, and keep to calm water in the wet season, because swell can cancel trips.
Views Without the Risk
Dream Beach is lovely to look at, with a 115 m crescent of white sand under limestone cliffs, but it is for sitting on the sand, not swimming, because rip currents run along it. Devil’s Tear is a lookout where waves blast spray up a rock channel. Stay behind the rope barriers and off wet rock. The cliff path between them is uneven limestone, so wear sturdy shoes.
Getting There
Fast boats from Sanur take about 30 minutes and mostly land on the beach, so you wade ashore. Pack light, wear sandals, and take a morning crossing. The last boat back leaves around 17:00.
